electric vacuum
No not asking for the wife, hell not sure she know if seen one.LOL

Looking to remove some clutter off front of engine. Vacuum pump relocated with not drive belt would be huge.

Since not going to new ring package until get rods for other crank I can either keep what there for now or go pan vac system.Yea know all other benifits of vacuum pump.

Wondering if any run eilectirc vacuum pump? OIf so what brand thoughts? Have seen few on speedway and other site and like input form anyone running one.

A mechanical vacuum pump increases in RPM and vacuum same as motor and creates more vacuum as needed. Electric vacuum pump will not do much even at idle and will get WORSE as RPM goes up because it stays same rpm.

You said you are not going to new ring package at this time. Sounds to me like you are not pulling much vacuum as is? That is probably not your ring package. That may be an intake leak, air leak around distributor, valve covers, oil pan, timing cover, dip stick tube or something like that. Smoke test motor and tell us what you learned.

Pan evac system is not going to do anything if you do not fix those leaks. With Zoomies maybe even less. Electric pump would be a waste of time and money if you still have those leaks. Smoke test motor.

A mechanical vacuum pump is the best, lowest cost, most efficient way to get vacuum. The only reason some run pan evac or electric pump is like in Super Stock or some other class where mechanical pump is not allowed.

None of us like the look of a vacuum pump or the extra belt up front but we run them because it works best by far.

First wrong on amount of vacuum but correct deos not change. There are quite a few that pull 12 to 15". Not asking if should or should not run one. Not sure why everyone here or most feel need to tell others what thehy should do when all asked was if anyone running that piece.

Maybe it just me. But telling someone about reason they should or shlould not use is disrespectful. You are assuming they have not already figured ups and downs or knowing anything about it, When actually that is why they are now asking if anyone uses it and if so what brand.
Maybe wrong approach but I try to credit pepole with having knowledge of what they ask about other than exactly what they asked about it, I Figure they have already done research or though it out. Then I do not feel need to show know more than them but rather know answer to quesrion or have opinion on it.

Now if ask hey thinkiong about using this what do you think about idea. Then by all means tell me why should or should not. I will be posting such a thread as soon as can get pics to down load to site. I am sure will be lots of why should nots on it. Maybe one I have not thought of and checked out yet.

I am using an electric pump off of ebay on my alcohol burning sbc. It pulls 4 inches vacuum and the moisture. $59 originally for toyota suv . Had make a simple bracket to mount on the motor plate and mcgyver some fittings. the cost of the belt drive ones is OBSCENE

Yea electric ones I have looked at are as much ormo,re than belt driven ones, Guess in this case vacuum cost, While 4 inches about same maybe little more than pan vac and not bad for cost. Looking to pull around 14" to get same gains and benifits of belt driven pump.

Will say for 50 to 60 is cheap and option to use instead of pan vac system.

I am just telling you that you are wasting your time and money to get worse results. Continue on.

"There are quite a few that pull 12 to 15" Bull, no there is not. Not unless they have the perfect ring package and sealed up very good. You do not.

Pulling vacuum is Cheap horsepower. Speed cost money - how fast do you want to go? Mechanical pump is proven cheapest, most efficient and you already have the pump. Why would you want to make it worse?

This is information about not running a vacuum pump, electric or otherwise.

I get asked all the time about not running a vacuum pump or pan-evac on my engine. I get it from my engine builder & other racers.

To be frank, I don't need it. I have 2 catch cans with breathers, one on each side. I have no engine leaks, no oil in the catch cans & only a small amount of water in catch cans in Nov. Dec. Jan. I don't need any more HP & highly doubt that a vacuum pump would provide any. Plus, 99.9% of my runs aren't using all the power I have available.

I agree they are nor requirement by any means. I ran alky injected bbc back in mid 80;s using a pan vac system basically and never had issue after i switched to total seal rings. Pretty sure I ran it as hard or harder than most here.DId not have power level as was only 454 which back then was upper end of size for beracket car.

I do see some advantages to them. Not sure I agree about no power to be gained and I am always looking at anything that might add power.

Judging by number of runs it sounds like B King makes it is obvious can run pretty well and consistent w/o. That would tell me even the small ones pulling 3 or 5"n will do just fine too.

Never said have vacuum issue as is. Just my ring package is not best to work with a vacuum and get foull benifit of combo. Have no leaks except one at pan and that because pan has been repaired 100 times. Never said i was concerned about how much vacuum either. If had concern about vacuum or lack of woud have asked about that, As stated I was asking if anyone ran electric driven vacuum pump and if so what brand and their thought about the one they had. That is all.

As for do not like look that small part. The damn thing just in the way. Now why other run one that funny. Seeinf as the guy ASking is running FED. with solid block billet heads and mag. Which is about as far from what others do as it gets. Prettu sure never been labled as does like others on much of anything.

Do not get why asking a question about a part means something else is wrong. Then never understood assuming someone asking about something needs advice other than what they asked about.

Your electric pump may be capable of pulling 12-14" of vacuum at zero flow IE perfectly sealed engine. None of them are. Blow by, crank windage, and gasket leaks are the primary cause of crankcase pressure. If your electric vacuum pump cannot flow enough air to outpace the blow by, head gasket leaks, and leaks into the motor from valve covers, pan, timing cover etc, then it will impeed the flow of crankcase vapors from your engine and thus cause more problems than its worth.

This may have been previously stated, so forgive me if I repeat the same information.

A mechanical vacuum pump (Like a Moroso 4 vane) works best, (Underline the word BEST) when used with a engine that uses a light piston ring package. I've tried electric vacuum pumps and the ONLY advantage is that they lightened my wallet. They made very little vacuum, perhaps 3 or 4 pounds. I tried VBS (Vacuum Balance Systems) and they produced very little power increase. Spend the money and find a way to package a mechanical pump, you'll be money in the Bank.

I have been considering an electric vacuum pump to run when engine is turned off. Seems that might help with condensation instead of trying to build heat then shut down.
After you shut off the mechanical pump no longer pulls moisture out of the engine and I don't see opening a vent in the valve cover doing much.

I considered getting a small wet/dry vacuum to do this.

Pros/Cons?

Dave

Kind of surprised nobody has mentioned my orignal idea on this which was electric drive for pumpI have. If could find a way to spin it about 2000 until hit throttle and then have way to spin it up to 4000 which equal engine at 8000. Kind of have eletric motor driven belt drive with something like rheostat controlled. Yea not simple build item hence looking into elctric pump.

Better ring seal, better carb signal. Rids motor of any moisture. Knocks windage down . Stops foaming oil plus Cleaner oil too. Don’t go above 12—14 if you don’t have pin oilers.

Dave, That would work to pull moisture out of the motor. You would probably need a small air leak on other side of motor to allow it to pull air in and moisture out with it. Dead air just does not carry much moisture. In addition it would help to cool the motor, how much depends on volume of air going through the motor.

If I was to do this I want an inline water separator to see how much moisture it is pulling out and adjust the air flow in to where you get best results. Pretty sure if your motor is sealed tight and it is under a vacuum it will not remove much moisture until it gets some air moving. You are right opening up valve covers with no pump or air moving just does not do much.

Pros? Probably most efficient way to remove moisture after a run. And cheap. I like cheap. A set up like this could be very good for Wideopen as I think he runs a dry block with solid heads. Could really help him cool his motor quickly in addition to removing moisture. For him an electric vacuum pump mounted on motor would be a complete waste of time and money. But doing it like this after a run may work really good for pulling moisture out and cooling motor.

Cons? More work to do between rounds and make take some testing to get it set up and working good.

Electric, I’d think there would be a benefit for cooling after a run and in the pits too. Vac is your friend.
