this is a 2 part question:
1. Those that have fuel cells in the trunk and OEM style trunk lids on hinges still, what are you using to latch the trunk closed and how do you open it?

2. Those that have fiberglass Zeus on deck lids and fuel cells in the trunk, how has your decklid held up to being removed repeatedly over time?

Here is my dilemma: Current setup us a 01 Mustang with OEM trunk lid, hinges and shocks. OEM trunk latch that has been punched out to open with a screw driver. Not a fan of this latch and how to open honestly. My thoughts are;
1 there has to be a product out there for latching OEM trunk lids that doesn't require an OEM key or doing anything extravagant.
2 Considering a lighter glass decklid but I'm concerned about it lasting with the car being on methanol and the tank being in the trunk, it will have to come off and on every round.

I'm sure there is better solution out there I'm just not wording it right or looking for the right thing.

I just leave the key in the trunk at all times. It's not secured with a cable or anything, as I've seen others do.

I have a hatch and leave the key in the cylinder that sits hidden behind the pull-down license plate holder. I carry a spare key.

If I had an exposed key, I’d pull out the tumbler, remove the tumbler pins and then permanently pin the key in place so it won’t pull out of the tumbler and able to actuate the unlock mechanism. I did this to a motorcycle seat release that used the ignition key to open. Worked perfect.

I leave the key in the lock on my '66 Nova. It is a stock trunk lid. It has never fallen out, but I carry a spare key.

On our ‘66 Nova we put a fiberglass lid on the stock hinges. No latch we just let it close. It will bounce up slightly when you leave but it was never an issue.

My Camaro has the stock latch for the deck and I open it to fuel it. I made a rod that engages the latch, flattened on the end and it's retained with washers and a roll pin so it is removeable. outer washer is welded and the roll pin is inside. It has a T handle co it's easy to grab and turn.

My Sunfire has the stock deck lid held on by 4- 3/4 inch push button quick release pins. These pins fight me so I have ordered a 12 x 10 inch carbon access door. Mine is for battery access in case of an emergency and have charging pins mounted flush with the body.

Fuel cell and battery in trunk here. Stock deck lid and brackets. Using stock latch, lock & key. Lock is right behind chute, so it’s a little tight getting the key in, but so far, so good.

What about a fuel door for the fiberglass deck lid? Wouldnt have to open the deck lid as often.

I have done the same as others and have left my key in the stock key hole and never had an issue.

I use the trunk key in the factory lock & it's tethered to the car with a short titanium fishing leader. I used titanium instead of steel for a hefty weight savings! I'm not BS'ing about the titanium leader & FYI: the key has never come out of the lock. Best 60' 1.27 tripping with back tire & plenty of sky-high wheelies.
