Sharp chisel cutting hose off by smacking in to a piece of aluminum works great! No bits of rubber like a cutoff wheel leaves behind and it keeps the steel braids from fraying.

Be careful using hydraulic fittings, they have the same dash/JIC designation but since they are for hyd hose which is thicker, the entry of the hose end is quite smaller. -6 and -8 are more for pressure than volume.
