strongest roller lfters
Curly,

Let me try to explain what Wide is saying as my engines are the same as his.
I have an Indy Maxx wedge block and I "had" a KB hemi ex A/FC block I converted to a wedge.
Neither has the oil passage drilled for hydraulic lifters, so there is no pressurized oil to the lifter bores. The only oil the lifters get is from windage off of the crank and oil from the top of the engine through oil draining from the heads.
So using a Crower hippo lifter is mostly a waste as there is no pressurized oil to go to the roller.
This is no real issue as there is still plenty of oil lubing the lifter and the bottom of the push rod.
The top of the pushrod is a slightly different animal. On these engines we run a solid push rod since there is no pressurized oil through the pushrod. There is pressurized oil to the rockershaft and there are squirters at the rockers directed at the pushrod cups on the exhaust rocker. For some reason some rockers do not have squirters on the intake side..
The reason for lubing the pushrod tips prior to start up is because of spring pressure forcing the oil out after it sits, shoot they will still burn up occasionally. A spraybar would eliminate most of the issues.

I talked to Crower and BAM both about using the bushed roller on mine. Neither would recommend using it, because of no pressurized oil.
I did run a Comp Cams bushed lifter for one season and had no issues. But one lifter broke and wiped out the cam.
The only lifter I have ever had issues with are the comp cams lifters.
Now I have a set of Crowers Group 7, and a set of BAM lifters.
2 seasons on the crower before I broke a 7 year old rod last year, and 4 runs plus 8 dyno pulls on the the Bam's before I broke 2 Olivers rods on the 572.
First it was lifter, now it's rods..I have no luck.

Just a little explanation on wides post.

Dave

I understand that but nothing changes if you do not have pressurized oil and the manufacturers do not recommend it then the same thing that works for the others with pressurized oil will may work here and I do not want him to have problems. So you have to find another way to get it done.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

I clearly am! Spitting

I’ve been running roller lifters for over 2 decades, .842 and .903 bodies, Crower and Isky. When it’s time to swap them out, I’ve called my engine builder ordered a set and dropped them in. Not once have I measured the bodies and not once has my builder(s) told me to measure the bodies and despite 1 internet salesmen that touts they must be measured and you an internet forum nobody that ain’t got shyt nor done shyt worth talking about, these lifters have logged upwards of 1000 passes without issue. I hope to do just that with the new BAM bushing lifter that you incorrectly referred to as "the flavor of the week". Another uninformed classless comment from the resident know it all mouth. You really act like a PUNK. Shame really, you obviously have a lot of experience and could be a positive influence on this forum and this sport, you just can't stop being a narcissistic boob long enough to let either of those things occur.

Haters gonna hate and hope isn’t a strategy.

That said, A clueless nobody calling a 60 y/o man with 3 decades of bracket racing experience a “punk”.

Priceless! Full Moon Spitting

Back to roller lifters...BAM lifters are the flavor of the week. Been racing long enough and around here, heard it before about every roller lifters. A few years ago, Morel lifters were the flavor of the week, before that Isky red zone, before that Crower Severe Duty. Comp lifters have never been the flavor of the week and if we’re being truly honest, the best, the strongest roller lifter is built by Jesel.

Why WOULD your engine builder tell you to measure them? He already measured them and doesn’t need someone who doesn’t know how to do it the way he wants it done muddling through it. If he didn’t before sending them to you then you need a new guy though.

And that’s what Ray/David Barton would have told him, same as I told him yesterday.
