Carbon Fiber con rods
Guess I've been under a rock for a while. A tractor puller friend of mine mentioned these in a conversation yesterday. Supposed to be able to withstand Top Fuel and not damage a block if it did upchuck. At $18k for a set I'm all over this! And no, it's not April Fools day......this has got to be smoke up the arse... How long do con rods last in a top fuel engine?

I fell for the plastic rod BS way back when, the guy almost got off with my money. And no, they weren't 18 grand but I was foolish enough to send the money up front.

When you see them in a running engine and they're not having troubles and you just have to have them then go right ahead. Steel rods for me from now on. Two broken engines from aluminum coming apart was enough.

Near as I remember, FRP rods were tried back in the 80's, the rods were so rigid they pounded bearings out in no time. Not sure carbon fiber wouldn't do the same. Think I'll stay with Cash and steel until they prove themselves or I die of old age, which isn't that far off come to think of it

Aluminum about 8 pass' max life. Carbon fiber better last 15 times that at that price so only need 90 runs or about 10 cranks.LOL

Lets wait and see how many JFr and DSR buy.

Bozman,

Sorry, it will not be any faster till you install that 1150 Dominator carburetor.

I don't know why you just won't listen to good advice.

better opt for 1250 after all those lite rods are going to spin up quick going to need lots of air and fuel to feed them, especially if those heads are ported.

how do this fit in bracket racing? seems there is a bunch of rich people bracket racing and those rods could be used in a bracket motor.

I have to say, I LOVE the idea that if a rod breaks you're not replacing EVERYTHING.

$18,000 is A LOT CHEAPER than buying a complete NEW ENGINE and that's if you can find blocks, cranks, etc.

They'll pay for themselves in 1 engine failure.

So they are strong enough to last millions of cycles and handle Top Fuel horsepower but if they break they will not destroy block? Hmmmm.

Another thing that concerns me is heat and oil soaking into it. Steel rods stretch a little when they get hot, aluminum even more. How much do these stretch?
