inferno camaroLong Travel Struts?
I had the car working pretty well on multiple tracks, but it had to carry the tires too far and too high. I really hate to give up on them but certainly need to get it to work with tires down or it will be a deal breaker for me. That is why I am considering longer travel struts. I'm thinking the afco with 4.5" travel so not the really long ones but 2" more than I have now. I really think they could be a great option if I can get it setup right. They have a new bubba radial coming out I would love to try but probably be too tall for my car. I love the fact they don't want to shake.

The radial is a great switch for a car running 6.30s (my opinion)
I think you are hitting the tire too hard for a radial to really work for you in the type of racing you are doing. A radial is less forgiving and more track dependent at higher horsepower
Those again are just my opinion I know.
It's fine to have an opinion, but even better if you have personal experience with radials.
Inferno, I hit my radials pretty hard on bracket race prep tracks with a good amount of boost & much smaller radials than you run. I've made around 300 boosted passes on the smaller radials.
I had an issue of mild tire shake then slight spin that recovered with a short pedal job. This happened on back-to-back passes. I pulled a small amount of timing in that area & solved the shake & spin.
I also had a few issues with a barely prepped outlaw track, but I know the bias ply slicks had the same issues or worse. I won the race & a decent chunk of $$$ to go along with it.

markemarkI’ve never used radials, but the majority of what I’ve seen in the lanes and winner circle with those that use radial is the 9.0 – 10.5 size.
Why is this? Could it be that more weight, less hp (under 750) on smaller tread width is better with these?? Just asking….

I love my AFCOs & have a tad over 5"s of total front-end travel. I limit the travel for a .400 pro tree to around 3"s.
You're giving yourself options with slightly more travel, you can always use your travel limiters. I would start with them limit to the travel you had originally. Then give it more travel in small increments to see if the car responds or doesn't.

M & M,
You are speaking my language! I use 9" & 10" wide (they advertise as 10.5), mine are all true 30"/94" dia./RO. They have seen more than their fair share of wins.
While I have always been 3,000 lbs.+, I'm at 3,100 lbs., now. I think the weight is a plus for the radials but have never run at a lighter weight. As for power, I'm pretty sure I'm outside the norm being well north of 750 hp. My local points race bracket tune turned from wanting 5.90-6.00 to a 5.60-5.70 mild tune. We do have a quicker/faster tune with no additional boost; I have a lot more boost available. We go from 100 UL pump gas to VP MS 109 & add some timing. We use it for special occasions.
I set the car up for 50/50 weight bias, got lucky. I thought that was a mistake with the monster 300' wheelies & tripping the 60' timer at 1.27 with the back tires. We have it all calmed down now with tightened front shocks, rear gear change & the rear traction device angle change. All is good now & peoples wanted me to add a wheelie bar.
That's the best I can tell you about our combo on radials. This combo has come a long way with the boost & the wanna-be EFI. Thanks for the help!
