looking to buy a 3/4 ton and keeping my options open with Duramax, Cummins and Powerstrokes. I remember there being a lot of issues with the 6.0's and 6.2' and 6's. Just wanted to know what year those were corrected.

the ford 6.7s have been super reliable(IMO) compared to its older 6.4 and 6.0 counterparts. the only thing i hear about them being an issue is the high pressure CP4 pumps are common failures.

the 6.7 which came out in 2011 has been pretty darn good. Between my dad, brother and I, we are on our 6th 6.7 with no major issues to speak of. the 6.0 and 6.4 had there issues. I would think anything out there still running with those engines has been deleted, studded, tuned, and updated. So in theory there issues should be corrected by now.

6.7 is not a powerstroke (international). Its a ford engine and has been very reliable compared to the 6.0 and 6.4

Very happy with my mine. 2nd 6.7, but had great service with my 7.3.

I skipped the 6.0 and the 6.4s.

The 2011 (first year) 6.7 had a few issues but were resolved from 2012 and up, I have a '12 and a '16 so far flawless. I have heard about the issue with the high pressure pump, there is a kit out that's supposed to save it. I had a 7.3 that went way over 400k miles... Cool JB

Never had a turbo issue, or even heard of one. I personally dont tune mine. I never keep them past 100k miles, so I dont want to void the warranty. But there 400+hp and 900+tq, Thats more than enough to pull whatever you need. Heck my long bed runs mid 15's in the 1/4 stock! My brothers 2017 is deleted and tuned, and when turned up, she rips, but for me it just isint worth it.

I am probably going to buy one with 100k plus so wondering about longevity in those motors. I know the Duramax go several hundred thousand miles and most of the Cummins as well.

Even Navistar has problems with the 6.4. The 2007 emission engines are not bad but the 2010 emission engines got worse.

Navistar 6.0 fixed many of the early engines by 2004. Ford however didn't do all the recalls to fix the problems and Ford gave the 6.0L a bad name. The same engine in a Navistar truck doesn't have a fraction of the problems it has under a Ford hood. Ford also used their own software for the Navistar engine.

The 6.0L from Navistar was rated around 240 HP. The same engine in a Ford is rated at 300 HP. Ford chipped the engine to get more power. Now the consumer buys a programmer and gives it 400 HP and wonders why the untouched engine fails.

The 6.7 is Ford's own creation and is a good engine however sales are dropping. Navistar teamed up with GM to go in competition against the F550. The Navistar CV is basically a Sierra 4500/5500 in Navistar trim and with the 6.6 (Isuzu) Duramax engine. GM and Navistar are selling more trucks than Ford in this line. The F150 is still a top seller but doesn't have a diesel option.

Good info, except ford does now offer a diesel in an F150

I have a 2015 6.7 and there is no way that i would tune it, we pull a 44 ft bathroom trailer and i worry more about stopping than i do pulling it. those 6.7 engines have more power than i will ever use.

If there is any chance you can keep the 7.3, DO IT!!

My work truck is a ‘16 F250XLT, occasionally I’ll pull my 28’ enclosed (with 3500 pounds of chevelle, cabinets full of crap, etc.). It’s unreal how much power this truck has. Hills that slow my ‘95 454 dually down to 45-50 mph from 70-75, this F250 loses zero mph, it’ll accelerate up those hills easily if I wanted to.
Like was previously said, I worry more about stopping than pulling power. Even stopping is good with the integrated trailer controller.

We had an 03 F-350 Dually with the 7.3L, and it would pull our 48' Gooseneck (2003 Super Hauler) with a 2000lb Mike Bos dragster and spare parts, golf cart etc. with zero issues. That truck was an absolute monster, only bad thing, with all old trucks in N.E. Ohio, the frame and body started to rust uncontrollably so we had to go and trade it in around 2013 or so, and got a 09 6.4L and I noticed a huge difference the first tow with it. It wasn't pleasant. I'm excited to say we just traded that in on a 2015 6.7L and should be making our maiden voyage in a couple weeks (need the gooseneck ball for the bed to be orded and shipped) and everyone here has me curious if it will pull the trailer better.

Is the nostalgia for the old 7.3 trucks just because they didn't require a lot of expensive maintenance? The reason I ask is the new trucks having 900 lbs-ft of torque will pull your stuff apart and makes me wonder how much torque the 7.3s made.

I have towed with a 12 valve Cummins turned up a bunch and a 2017 Cummins and it was so much more powerful it was crazy. I don't mean to disparage anyone's older Ford just curious.

Curtis
