Mr BillBattery for Trailer
Whats everyone using for the enclosed trailer battery thats used for the winch and elec tongue jack... I plan on charging with a solar panel using a battery tender controller . So don't think I really need anything that is really that expensive.

CURTIS REEDI use a Sears Platinum that came out of my race car after 8 years. Just about any full size battery will do fine.

chasracerSame here - Optima finally ran out of oats to crank high compression BBC but it works just fine for lights, radio and winch in the trailer. I also wired it so that going down the road it's getting a charge from the tow vehicle.

Curly1Last Summer I went to a 16 volt battery system and put my old optima to work on my trailer. batteries do not last forever and would rather have trailer battery fail than race car battery.

dragstermikeI did the same as the others have mentioned. I had a optima go bad on a hot day at the track. When I replaced it, I put the old one in the trailer. It's been fine for a couple years now. It charges as I drive down the road.

EmanMy trailer came with a Diehard deep cycle battery when I bought it. It was in a battery box on the tongue and the battery was submerged in water! I lost track of many years old it is but last time I checked it with a hydrometer 1 cell was completely dead. It still winches the car in just as good as it ever did. I throw a charger on it once in a while when I think of it but I've never had it even slow the winch down. How it still keeps going is beyond me.

Mr BillThx everyone
Anyone ever try using a 8 Volt Golf Cart Battery? I have to replace them in my cart and a few of the batteries still hold charge.

CURTIS REEDOver voltage, such as using a 16v battery in a 12v system doesn't seem to be a problem but I would be concerned about under voltage. But if you do it report back how it worked.

RPROGASThree years + with the same inexpensive Wally World 12 volt and never a problem, but I keep it on a tender.
If, and when the 16 in the car starts to have an issue cranking the engine, I'll probably stick it in the trailer box.
