So for those who have added grid to racing program. How much has it changed your racing and how much do you feel it increased consistency? Did it increase performance? Help analyze issues? Help find areas that needed attention?

The grid with an 8 magnet or better driveshaft sensor is a very powerful tool for consistency.

It made it a lot easier to make minor tuning changes and things like that. Plus options that would be add ons to other ignitions

Worth every penny. Unless you race my tracks then it sucks! Don't get it.

Very versatile. Once you learn it you can refine the tune at every point on the track.

Configuration: 3350#, 582 C.I.,

60 - 1.24
1/8 - 5.53@ 126MPH
1/4 - 8.73@ 159MPH

3700#+210lb driver, FULL interior, through mufflers, 10.5 tire.
60'-1.333 (IN 4000ft DA! Joisy Math excluded; 1.25sec using JOISY MATH.) Wink

I can plot and file a variety of timing maps for different tracks and/or different track conditions. It also has a data acquisition feature that's valuable, I can replay a run and see where it's spinning the tire and make a timing adjustment.

To answer the question: Is it worth the investment of money and instillation time, yep sure is.

I don't have a RacePack but the grid records every run for basic things like RPM/time/battery voltage/timing/rev limits

Takes 5 minutes to hook up my laptop and look at a run or make a change...

I went full grid this year after having just the controller for 5 years.

It's been flawless and I use the safety feature....as well. Shuts the engine down to a preset rpm limit after a preset amount of time...In case of a stuck throttle....

I'm very new to the Grid so it hasn't done much for me yet but it's far smarter than I am, I'm happy I spent a few extra bucks and have it.

Those hooking driveshaft sensor to grid. How are you doing that? I thought only way is if you had the racepack data logger too.

They are using the MSD 7761 ARC module with Grid 7730 that is Not Legal in N/Ihra bracket racing.

Although DS pickups have now become legal in Pro (no-box) racing, and have been in Super Pro for a long time don’t expect to see a Legal Module for these classes anytime soon or ever for Grid 7730.

Holley owns MSD and Racepak and they will not have one compete with the other for a DS module. Racepak only.

Thats what I thought. I knew arch Module was illegal. So what class are they running that they can use them?

Anyone running the Grid connected the the SLE output on a Delay Box? This way you use the SLE to activate a RPM level through the Grid and can go to the floor with pedal and then Grid goes wide open once SLE from Delay box deactivates.

checking into exactly what I will need to have grid reord info I need and all work with msd MAG 12 since a 44 on bracket car seems little over kill.LOL

Not sure grid data acquisition will really work like I need ,but it would better than what I have now. Plus having timers to activate a few thing would be nice. I need or want 2 or 3 rpm,4 temps and 8 egt's plus cpl pressure readings. Like I said its not doing all that but would be better than butt reading I get now. LMAO

You can learn a lot during a TNT session that can be legally applied during a N/IHRA bracket race.

I understand that one could easily remove the MSD 7761 from the Grid ignition and be legal in bracket racing.

But for slightly more money than the MSD 7761 that is not legal, one could purchase a Racepak Sportsman, have more data, share up to 6 Grid channels and be legal in Super Pro and Pro classes.

Agreed. I was not suggesting using the ARC module during competition. Just that you can learn a lot about your car with a DS sensor that can be used to program your grid to help in consistency. Whether the DS sensor is connected to the ARC module or a data logger of your choice is a personal preference.

The grid doesn't start any timers until power is applied and released from the dark blue wire (launch.) Why would you connect the grid blue wire to the SLE output on the delay box? I don't understand why one would try to use this, this way.

Why not use the turbo spool function and hook the SLE to the green wire.
quote:
Spool/Step 5 Rev Limiter: This program gives turbo cars a fourth rev limit to help the engine spool the turbo prior to the launch. It is active when 12 volts is applied to both the Light and Dark Blue wires at the same time or when using the Step 5 retard wire. (The Step 5 wire can allow for activating the Spool rev Limiter without activating the line-lock.) It is adjustable in 50 rpm increments from 1,000 to 15,000. Default is 12,000 rpm.

But I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish doing this.

Using the spool/rev feature is used in place of a SLE. When using that feature no SLE is needed on the car.

Yes, using the SLE connected Spool/Step 5 wire. Works great.
