Making the change to Mickeys

CURTIS REEDMaking the change to Mickeys
So I'm changing this year from the 18250 Hoosier 14x32 to the 3074 Mickey-Thompson 14x32
I weigh 1989 at the line and run 7.7 to 8.0 lbs in the Hoosiers. Will I have to adjust psi in the MT? I would think the adjustment would be somewhat linear at far as x amount up or down to the MT no matter the weight. What say you who have gone that direction?
Curtis

A GENERAL rule of thumb is, 1-2 psi over other tires. Honestly, id run them at whatever you run, and let it over wad the tire, then go up until you get the car where you want it.

CADId recommend the 3074S for sidewall longevity. Ive ran both and now run the 3074S. My truck is alot heavier, but i have friend's that run them on light door cars in the 5.40-5.50 range with plenty of success. In contrast to opinions, they hold air fine.

Curly1You will love the 3074 and will never run anything else. Your 60 times will be best ever, car will be more consistent and it will hook better in extreme temperatures. When I changed from
Hoosiers to MT I ended up about 1 Lbs more than the Hoosiers.

I’m just a 5.75 to 5.85 player with my small engine in it. 1.25 to 1.29 60’ depending on track temperature and I foot brake. I’m afraid to go to the MT and stiff wall also. That is 2 big changes.
Steve, I have a compressor that works well. LOL I have to because one of my Hoosier front runners will go flat in 2 weeks if you don’t keep it aired up.
Jeremiah, I’m just wanting to shorten the learning curve with them.
Curly, I hope you’re right.
So far I have been told March for them though. I have 375 passes on my Hoosiers so we may see 450 or so by then. LOL I can run up to a 16 x 33 so if I can’t find any I might look at 14.5 x 32 or 33s.

Curly1I have put Dawn dish soap in them and they held air good as anything else. If you want to stiffen up sidewalls you can run tubes in them.
Have ran them before with nothing and they did not leak much.

Joe CWe run the 3074S with no tubes in a 3,000 lb Camaro. last time out at Xtreme it went 5.56 with 10.5 lbs. of air. We have experimented a little with changing the air pressure, and it doesn't seem to make much difference. Rear suspension is ladder bar with double adjustable shocks. And no air leaks

markemarkIf you have never run MT or vice a versa, I think it’s good to try the other brand. Then you can make the best choice of what you prefer. I believe tire compounds/ quality can change slightly over the years even when listed as same 10 yrs prior.
I used Hoosier 18245 (32x14 stiff) up until 2016 and then switched to MT 3074S up until last summer when MT was out of my size for over 2 months. I went back to Hoosier but 18235 (stiff) that were 1” narrower and 1” less RO. I was impressed with the Hoosiers mounting, as both took less than 2 oz to balance (could have used none, but I’m fussy) and RO exactly as advertised. Unlike the last set of MT 3074S that took over 10 oz to balance and still leaked even though I soaped them generously, these Hoosier don’t leak.
The difference between MT - Hoosier for me using same air pressure…. the MT like Matt Dadas burnouts. The Hoosiers liked much less BO.
When I replace these 18235, I’m going to Hoosier 18245 (32x14 stiff) that I used in 2016. One reason I switched to MT was that the Hoosier RO were 1.25” over the spec. I think since Continental purchased Hoosier in 2016, perhaps the quality has gotten better, but just guessing.

Bob I hope you're right. I also hope they last as long as the Hoosiers I have.

CURTIS REEDWell I can't find a set so I guess it's back to Hoosier. MT is going to lose a lot of sales at this rate.

CURTIS REEDHow about that. As soon as I posted I get an email back from McCormack Racing that they have them in stock. Guess I am making the change at least for this set. Pretty good price compared to what I have been quoted also.
