This may be a very dumb question, but what exactly would have to be changed to switch from a BBChevy to SBC in a dragster? I'm thinking just the front motor plate, but maybe I'm way off base. This message has been edited. Last edited by: SuperProRacer,

No question is a dumb question.. So I'll ask why go from a big block to a small block in a dragster?

The obvious answer is front motor plate. Rear will not change. Motor will be a little shorter and little more room on sides.

Seems like the majority of cars on the market are for big block. I'd like to upgrade to a nicer car this winter if I can find one I can afford and I like. I can't afford to build another engine too(running SBC now) and I'm not keen on the idea of buying an engine built by someone I don't know and know nothing about. Last one of those deals I got into just about broke me. So hopefully that answers that....mainly a budget thing right now.

Dead On
I went from a SBC to a BBC to a SBC. front plate was all I had to change (made my own). took some time relocating all the externals on the front as they now all bolted on in different locations, but all the rest just bolted up no problem
I can not speak from experience. But they say when you go from a steel bbc to an alum bbc it requires a different spring. I don’t see why this would be different going to a bbc over sbc. Alum block Vs steel block bbc Is roughly 120 lbs. jmo.

Yep, whatever you find you can probably find or build a new plate for the SBC. When I got my Racetech, I went ahead and got plates for both engines because I wasn't sure what I would be running.

Front motor plate, headers, and converter.
