I guess this will qualify as Tech Talk - Since it IS of a technical nature, and it does involve my race tow vehicle. Valvoline, I love your products, and have been using them for decades. But your new, 2-piece, 1 gallon/5 quart jug S U C K S!!! I was at the parts store, and picked up a jug of 10/30 Synthetic and an oil filter for the Chevelle, then I put the plastic sack of goods on the floor behind the passenger seat of my truck. Next morning I went to grab the stuff, and saw a bunch of oil in the clear sack, (along with the soaked receipt and filter carton). The truck has decent floor mats, but this crappy jug had leaked enough to spill off the mat, onto the black carpet. (Really glad it is black, not tan or light gray). The stupid jug is made in 2 pieces, and snapped together. What a PIECE of S H I T design! The foil seal is still intact and dry under the cap, you can see the leakage occurred right at the joint between upper & lower pieces of the jug. Okay, back to the Q - The above info is being shared as a precaution for anyone who might buy one of these abominable pieces of engineering. Please share your advice on the best way to extract the stuff from my carpet. I blotted up what I could with a terry cloth towel, then placed a couple of clean folded towels on top of it, to hopefully draw some more oil out, (and protect anything that gets inadvertently placed on that location). I hate the idea of shampooing the carpet, it is jet black & I don't want it to fade or bleach at all, but I don't know of anything that will actually dissolve the oil or get even half of it out of the carpet, (much less the padding underneath). I suspect it will be just like cleaning your living room carpet - any stains might go away temporarily, but they always come back, because whatever left the stain is still present in the layers of carpet and padding underneath? Again, I'm glad it is black, but still p1ssed that it happened... (Once again, companies have to try and design stuff to accommodate the idiotic majority of people, who don't know how to do basic stuff - like pour oil out of a jug with the opening UP, not down. So they redesign the jug to add an air tube, to prevent the "Glug" that the idiots encounter, and thanks to that my carpet is messed up). Sigh... Thanks in advance for any advice, fellas. Thinking an email to Ashland Oil Co is in order, along with some pictures of the jug, and it's leaking seam/joint. Dan "Jim" Moore Much too young to feel this damn old!!

Might try Dawn dish soap, it works good to get oil off of birds and other wildlife after an oil spill and does not hurt them...

Might try some Gojo, or other hand cleaner on it. It works on clothes. Not sure on fading your carpet though... Maxx Levell If you're gonna be a bear...be a GRIZZLY!

Bissell make a powerfull hand held carpet cleaner, used with their solutions, it does a good job at extracting liquids from most stains. You can fill it with hot water for even better results, you might have to go over the stain several times. We bought ours at Walmart for around $100.

Jim there is a company local to me here in Oklahoma that has a cleaner called Slam. It is the strongest cleaner I have ever used. We got it to clean our machines when we changed over to threir coolant. If it won't get it out nothing will. It isn't cheap though but I don't remember what a gallon of it was. You might give them a call and see if they ship smaller than gallon containers and what they think about carpet use. I was shocked at how well it cleaned. Oh yeah, wear gloves and eye protection. I've gotten it on my skin and didn't have any problems but I didn't leave it long and could kind of feel that it was irritating. I used some on my K&N filter I have on my roadster and it is super clean now. http://www.stoughcool.com/cleaners.html Curtis ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

I would start by stacking a bunch of news papers or paper towels on top of it with something heavy on top to pull as much oil out that way as possible. I have used a cheap carpet cleaner from Walmart called Tough Stuff I believe and it has worked well and no fade.

I agree with Big Steve. After absorbing as much as you can, try Dawn. I have used that and a shop vac at work before and it did a good job.

Our local car wash has shampooers. Probably good to pull as much out as possible like already said and then start breaking it down with surfactants or just detergents in the real world. Then sucky sucky. And repeat. It would be nice if it were not soaking all week. So I imagine it's already done? Foxtrot Juliet Bravo

Dawn will do a pretty good job, but you'll want to pressure wash it real good. Wet it down, brush the soap in real good, then pressure wash it really well. Remove carpet of course.
