I am looking to buy a tire inflator to take to the staging lanes with me in case I need to add a pound or two...one of those rechargable battery type thingies...I run 14x32's out back...I won't be using this for any other function...what do y'all recommend?...thanks...oh yeah, I don't care for the clip onto the valve stem deals...

An on board air compressor

I have no idea if they are still available, but a couple years back a fellow competitor I was running in a late night final had a nifty, hand-held unit that looked just like a cordless drill. I think it was a Stanley, (yellow colored), used the same interchangeable rechargeable battery as a drill, but it was an "air gun" with a chuck/fitting on the end. Someone had made a mess on the track in the semi's, so he and I sat in the lanes for almost an hour, but he was able to add his pound or 2 as needed. It was compact, lightweight, very handy. I've thought about looking for something like it. Dan "Jim" Moore Much too young to feel this damn old!!

Ryobi makes them. I just got one and it works well. Unfortunately, it is the clip on type of chuck. I'll be changing that soon. Matt Ward

I still have a Sears brand and it works fine (changed out that stupid clip on chuck also) but I did put the on board compressor on the dragster. I would never go back to CO2 after doing that. Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right. Here I am.......

Yup...that's the type I am looking for...resembles a cordless drill...I would get the Ryobi but that darn clip on chuck never works right for me...I also don't need to pay for the interchangable part of that deal...there are a lot of really inexpensive ones out there but that worries me some...hmmmm...

Most every power tool company makes a hand held cordless inflator. I had one from Sears back in the day, never used it once. Always had either an air tank or compressor at my trailer. Threw the hand held away years ago. Besides, I don’t run emp tees!

I've got Ryobi cordless tools so I put a charger in the trailer and have their hand held inflator. I also keep the cordless 1/2" impact and a drill in the trailer so 1 battery powers them all. I'm considering buying one of the cordless fans for in the car so sitting in the staging lanes I could run it and not kill my car's battery.

I wonder what I’ve been doing wrong all these years that I’ve never had an issue with a clip-on chuck, from the hand-held Ryobi I have today way back to the Black and Decker AirStation I used back in the 90s. Tony Leonard

Maybe I just had bad luck with the clip on stuff...lol...Ed, I don't need this for the pits...down this way teh weather can change dramatically, heck, even when the sun goes down...if I get stuck in the lanes for a bit my tires may lose 1/2 to 1 lb. or more...last Saturday we had over 250 in top and the sun went down..the temps dropped from 68* to 56* in under an hour...by the time I got to run my slicks went from 12.4 to 11.7...I wanted to run at 12.1...Ryobi looks good right now but I am also looking at Hart because the gauge on their unit is digital so much easier to read...

I also have an on-board small 12 volt air supply system. Frankly I rarely used the air supply but I did need it, plus two 10 pound weight bars to help make the class minimum weight of 2100 pounds when my son Brian drove the car. Now that I'm driving the car again I don't need the extra ballast (please no jokes about my weight I'm only 178, OK). Bob

I have a harbor freight 16V one that I keep in the golf cart just for emergencies. Does well up to about 70 lbs, it is a Bauer. Everyone can say Chinese junk but it works and it is there if I need it. They are pretty inexpensive and if it tears up then I will just keep the battery and buy another one. OK, folks...I bought the Hart unit so we will see...I will use it at Palm Beach this Saturday...cost me 88 bucks for the hand held unit, 20V battery and fast charger...it is pretty much identical to the Ryobi except for the digital gauge...all of the other attachments are available just like Ryobi... 20210406_194638 by Daniel Warren, on FlickrThis message has been edited. I just Bought the Ryobi. I already have a plethora of batteries and they are warrantied for 3 years so for 28 bucks it was a no brainer. The connector works just fine, if it ever breaks. Has a digital readout, but it is far from accurate. No matter I have an accurate tire gauge.
