Guys, at a local swap meet this weekend, a guy told me how he helped his nephew build a 3rd-gen. Camaro race car, and it uses six, 20-volt Milwaukee cordless tool batteries for starting and ignition.
He says the car does not use radiator fans.
Dummy me never thought to ask him really what the advantage was, but it seems like kindof an expensive way of doing things.
Ever hear of such a thing? Lol he was probably just 'blowing smoke' up my butt. ;^)

I’ve seen some comp eliminator cars with tool batteries but they only had one. Didn’t use it for starting obviously. Just for weight savings I would guess.

Older Harley bikes that removed the starter and used a kick starter, used a tiny trailer break-a-way battery to power the ignition and lights.
Majority of the tool batteries use A123 lithium batteries. 10 years ago, a drag motorcycle was built and powered by 990 A123 batteries and has run a 1/4 mile in 7.86 seconds at 170 mph. It only took 10 minutes to recharge the batteries.

Folks have been using just one of the tool batteries to run their loggers.
Multiples to start seems not to be cost effective or the nephew just wanted to see if it would work.
No fan does not mean much these days with electric water pumps on and off, methanol, etc.
Could be he was just puffing up and saying stuff he did not actually understand. Sounds like the internet doesn't it?

I'm gonna see if I can run my car on two 9v batteries....much lighter than the 16v that's in it now....

Well cant recall the last time I got through a project with my cordless drill making it without dying - mostly my fault for never charging. Therefore my success with this idea would be about 0%. Ill stick with the monster battery and alternator I run and dial .05 slower. Props for the effort from the guy trying it.
And you could have 18volts.

Several years ago, there were some Prostock cars(and others, Comp, etc.) that used them to run water pump and fan(s), while the main bateries were being charged. A couple chassis builders sold a base, that could be mounted in car, to take the battery from a tool. I remember seeing a couple, but I think that has gone by the wayside now.
You have to put in the effort, to get anything out of it.
