While the car is in the trailer (At home) I've been charging my 16 volt battery for more than 2 years without any problems. The recommended charging rate for an 8 cell 16 volt battery is 2.26 volts per cell. Therefore the correct charging rate for a 8 cell 16 volt battery should be 18.08 volts while it's in float mode, which my charger maintains. One note mentioned is keeping the ambient temperature below 85 degrees. BobThis message has been edited. Last edited by: RPROGAS,

If the battery you purchased needs to be on a battery tender anytime, all the time or ever while being isolated from any electrical draw, you purchased the wrong battery imo. This includes sitting during off season months of nonuse. mem….I never charge at the track or during winter storage months…. NEVER!

I put my XS Power 16v battery on the the charger a couple of times during the offseason, and every time it goes automatically into float. I've had that battery in the car for over five years now I think...zero issues Mark Goulette Owner/Driver of the Livin' The Dream Racing dragster www.livinthedreamracing.com "Speed kills but it's better than going slow!" That is different than if you want to. I keep my batteries on a tender any time they aren't at the track. They don't NEED it but I believe it does make them last longer keeping them desulfated. JMO though, yours may vary. I'm not sure what battery manufacturer says it has to be on a tender/maintainer though, to say it NEEDS one making it the wrong battery. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

I believe most battery manufactures publish a voltage value of when their battery needs to be charged and frequency. If manufacture recommends being on a maintainer when not in use, I say you have the wrong battery. This is Odyssey instructions included with battery I purchased 7/2021 that replaced the 9 yr old of same brand/ model that was still working………. “2-years storage life at 77°F (25°C) without needing to charge. Recharge when the OCV is <12.6V [50% SOC).” I charge if battery voltage reads less than 12.6 v resting no load and isolated prior to leaving for a racing weekend, which is almost never charge. The 150 A rated alternator I use that now has new Jones HTD pulleys is all I’ve ever used or needed at the track. That includes running fan and pump 5 min between rds if necessary, no charger. Last week I changed the cooling system over to antifreeze for winter running the pump 5+ minutes, had the ignition ON, engine Not running several times doing ecu update and changes. I just went out now and checked battery voltage… 12.74v mem…. I never charge at the track or during winter storage months…. NEVER!
