I've had LT tires on my 28' and with a single rear wheel truck I could really feel the difference compared to a trailer tire. A lot less sway with the trailer tires which have a stiffer sidewall. Then going from the trailer King tires to the providers which have a very stiff sidewall it really made a difference. Instead of seeing how many years I can get out of trailer tires I'm going with the sell my old ones and buy new ones, wheels and all every 3 years. I cheaper than buying 1 new tire on the road and I can do it at my convenience and have peace of mind instead of waiting for the first one to blow. | |||

Goodyear Marathons 15” D tire worked fine on my enclosed trailer They said they could be aired up to 70 lbs if you ran 65 mph and I always set my tires cold to nearly 70lbs. I destroyed Carlisle’s in way less time than the Goodyear’s. Had Titans before that and had a major blowout and tread separation with those. That was at night and it was cool out. Next year I'm going to 19.5's on my truck over the 17's that are on it now, and I'll go to either the Boar wheel 19.5's or Saulin Heavy duty 16" on my trailer when they are due....expensive, yes....but cheap insurance for what it has to do..... I replace trailer tires every 5 years and average 8k – 10K towing miles a year. The 15” Maxxis E rated tires on my enclosed trailer are on the fifth year and will be replaced next year to include the never used spare. Although they still have tread the sidewalls are junk and is what wears out. I will not put 16” tires rated at 2800# on that will raise the trailer floor height. The new (2017 release) USA made Goodyear Endurance trailer tires are not the old Marathon made in Communist Country tires. These are High Quality USA made trailer tires. I’ve had the Endurance tires since 2017 They are looking excellent so far Got a nail in one and replaced it. I carry 2 brand new spares and a drive on ramp to change a flat much more easily than trying to use a jack. Generally when you get a nail in a tire it’ll be the rear tire on a tandem axle. The front tire stands the nail up after running over it and the rear tire drives into it. I purchased a battery operated impact last year and carry the drive up ramp as well. I believe I could change out my tire in 15 minutes or less. I also carry a light that clips onto my baseball cap bill to do the job hands free at night. My spare is mounted at the very rear of the trailer on the floor wall and a ratchet strap holds it to the wall. I can have the spare out in less than 30 seconds. Agreed. Changing a tire on the road is very dangerous. You want to avoid a driver that has “Target Fixation” to drive into you while stopped. This is why so many cops that have people pulled over on the highway are driven into…. “Target Fixation” !! | |||

I blew a tire on a downhill stretch of RT 80 at night. Pulled over and it was the left rear. Tread was still attached but mostly separated. No way I was going to change that tire where I was. I drive along the shoulder looking for a better place. Nearly got run over by an 18 wheeler at one spot. Just decided to make it to the next exit a good 5 miles away. Tread flapping until it finally came off. Got off the highway and found a nice lighted parking lot. Used some 4x4 wood to drive up on and change the tire. Replaced them all after that episode Those tires were branded Titan and the “made in China” was hidden right where the bead seats on the rim. After that I bought the drive on ramp item and another spare. Made up another mount. One tire on each sidewall. One up front, one at the rear. I’ve had other flats but that one was the worst. That semi could easily have hit me. | |||

I assume everyone carries two spares and a jack capable of lifting one side of a loaded trailer. The last flat(s) I changed involved one tire coming apart and puncturing the other tire. The drive-on ramp was useless in this situation. | |||

I have 15” 6 lug rims on my 99 pace 28’ trailer. I’d like to find some Chevy 16” 6 lug rims to put on my trailer. A bottle jack will work where a floor jack will not. I carry a bottle jack for my motorhome and it will lift my trailer. Even a stock type screw jack will work when a floor jack won’t. Every time I’ve had a flat I could not lift my trailer loaded with whatever floor jack I had with me. You can also use your tongue jack, just put a jack stand under the rear of the trailer under the frame with the tongue as low as possible. Might need to unload car but it will work. | |||

SCDIV1 is correct. I once had the pleasure of unloading the race car at 1:00 AM at the top of Ranger Hill (Texas racers will know that location) so my floor jack could lift one side of the trailer for a tire change. I did not have my drive-on ramp with me and no bottle jack. Lesson learned the hard way. | |||

There is a difference in trailer wheels to truck wheels as far as rating. What the difference is I have no idea but I've stuck with trailer wheels. As far as being prepared for flats I've learned a lot the hard way. I carry a homemade trailer aid but also have a bunch of wood blocks, a heavy bottle jack, 2 spares and a cordless impact gun. I also started carrying 2 spares for my truck too. | |||

Guess I'll find out how good the new Goodyear Endurance American tires are. Put 4 on Saturday after having a de-lamination of a Chinese tire the week before. They were 3 years old. I just have a little 20' enclosed that came with 205/75-15s and I stepped up to 225/75-15s. $655 out the door for the 4 tires. Thanks. When I bought those Chinese tires that was all the tire shop had that was local after a blowout on the originals. I figured since I already had them run them until I needed something else. The Endurance wasn't even out yet then. Like most trailer tires they still looked brand new. I'll probably sell the remaining 3. I had one of my tires blow out coming home from the track a couple weeks ago. Tires still looked new with no dry rot at all. I checked the date codes and they were from 2012 so I went ahead and replaced them all due to the age. The old ones were C rated so I stepped up and found some D rated 205/75/14's. Hopefully I get at least another 7 years out of them. (No, I did not buy the Goodyears, way over my budget) 72 Nova "Hooptie" | |||
