Just a heads up. I was having some issues with my wind speed (anemometer) on my Altalab weather station. I used some canned air to blow the dust out of it and thought maybe it was fixed.

It was not, and I made a fatal error. I picked up a can of electric motor cleaner, not electronic contact cleaner which was sitting right beside it.

Needless to say even the most powerful brake cleaner could not have done a better job of turning this thing into a pile of trash. It literally fell apart in my hands.

That was a $226 dollar mistake so learn from my screw up and don't clean yours with anything other than air. Lesson learned.

Dave,

I think you’re correct. I don’t think it was fixable, I’ve had it a long time. I was going to send it in but decided to try to clean it with something besides air. Now it’s in a number of pieces.

While we are talking about Altalab wind. I have a question about the cups. My system has the smaller 3-cup arrangement and noticed systems with larger cups. Makes me wonder which ones are more accurate or are they calibrated per unit? Mine don't spin as fast as the large.??? I could call Altalab, but probably would get more opinions from racers.

They claim the larger cups are more accurate. I’m assuming they’re more sensitive to lower wind speeds. At least that’s what they say on their website. I did have the larger cups on mine.

Wasn't aware there are 2 sizes cups, must be a relatively new change. My unit was purchased in 2018 and it has the same size cups as my friends and competitors.

Ed,

You have the larger cups. They have been out for quite some time.

C Cup, bigger IS better, more accurate at low wind speed.
