Seeing as how my barely used yet 3 or 4 year old XS 1000 16v battery is dead. What next?

As I posted in thead starter repair. The battery show 17 volts and 16 plus at starter but would not turn starter or engage the transbrake.

First reason suspected was when charger hooked up it bounce around and then fall back and drop voltage reading while charging. Another battery confirmed battery was issu whole time even with it showing voltage at starter and transbrake wire.

So what to repalce with? Like the 16v deal. Before reply lithium is way out. Heck robbing peter.paul and thier brothers for regular 16v.

This explains why you hurt your starter and why it did nothing when you tested it

A battery can easily show normal voltage with various meters but has next to no ability to run anything

No ampacity.....

Modern meters like a Fluke that I use everyday will read voltage and yet something doesn't work....

I have an old habit that works very well

Tap the + and the - cables together for a second.....you'll know immediately if the battery has any power !!

A dead short won't lie.....I call it 12 volt welding....or in your case 16 volt welding....

yea lack of spark when attempting to jumper the starter post was a first concern. Was expecting a normal decent spark. Cables not sparking when tried same old trick was no surprise since ends rusty, somebody left them outside. Not saying who but his butt hurting from chewing.

A good trickle charger is key to making any battery last and once you kill it never comes back to 100%.

There are a lot of people going back to 12 volt systems after running 16 volt for a while.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

The battery was never totally dead lowest it ever got was 16 maybe 15 volts. Always slow charge on the lowest setting.

After connecting the 12v I thought about it. Just does not spin near as fact and with mag that is key.

A 4 year old battery owes you nothing and needs to be replaced regardless of how many starts is on it. Just buy another XS Power D1600 and be done with it.

This^^ I had bad luck with the 1000’s myself. I switched to the D1600 and have had no issues the past several years.

I have been using the S1600 because it is 15lbs lighter than the d1600 and I replace it after 3 seasons as a Maintenance item, nothing worse than a car that wont start because the battery is dead

I disagree after last weekend. A car that will not start because of a battery that shows good voltage, but will not power starter is worse than dead. Guess might as well LOL , already have the cussing out lout covered.

Turbo Start does have one that fits. Looks like next winter I need to build a new nose piece a little taller. The biggest portion of choices are 1" taller than will fit and that is with a battery tray mounted flush with the bottom of the chassis.
