Wow, hate to see that happen with Les. Be good to hear the backstory...where it failed, how many runs, brand, anything contributed. Les makes a ton of passes and travels a lot so could be a high mileage unit...or he could have just put a new rear together.

Looks like it broke right in front of the bearing, you can see the pieces of the rotor but the caliper is still attached

again how much do new axles cost? guessing about 1/10 the damage there and thats probably high guess on cost or low guess on damage.

Also looks like a bearing race or part of the bearing seal.

^^ the above is a good side by side representation of a floater rear end vs a standard rear end. You would essentially need an entire new housing, axles, center section... a whole new setup.

a top dragster really needs a floater rear end and axles

i was informed by strange ,no gundrilled axles for anything over 1200 hp especially blower cars.les has my bracket setup for his par procharged motor .axles take a lot of shock to go sub 1.00 60ft 300 passes on that torque side glad he is ok

After looking at the damage to the car and to cost to repair the conversion to a floater is cheap insurance, not to mention the safety factor. The car in the other lane came close to T-boning him.

I saw a dragster axle that had broken just behind the wheel bearing. The wedding ring that holds the bearing had been tack welded. It was very obvious the crack had started right at the weld. This used to be standard practice by some old school shops. Definitely not reccomended.

dang I guess my axles are coming out.ive got the moser 40 spline new in 2008,think a new set of those before I would do a floater.

I did change the axle bearings every 3 years though, not sure if that helped.i am .960 to .978 60 foot
