Vacuum pump
My moroso work
My gz works
I hear star is t1ts
Does spending more make the lack of air pressure better?
But wasn’t the question about vapor or something?

I run Star Machine. It's been flawless. Bought it complete off a racer from Puerto Rico.....Buddy here just got a Moroso, also a great piece. Either will get the job done....As well a GZ. Just a matter of preference as to which one to get....

have never run one. Some times an evac tube from the valve cover to the headers works just fine.It pulls a lot of moisture out of the top.

How is a vacuum leak going to produce warm/hot moist air coming out of the motor? And all motors have blow by,,, which is the source of the moisture. In addition an number of ring packages rely on cylinder pressure to seal so at idle more blow by can occur.

Unless there is a water leak internally in the motor, during startup/warm up, especially in cool weather, it's normal to see some condensation coming out of the breather. Once the oil warms up enough, it stops. The amount of condensation that comes out can vary depending on a number of factors. If the motor is running good and your not losing water, don't worry about, the vacuum pump is doing it's job!

You kind of answered your own question
First off if you have a bad leak you are pulling outside are (cooler than engine temperature) into and through a warm engine therefor the air coming out of the pump is warm. Now you also stated that blow by is a big source of condensation which I don’t really agree with but between blow by and possibly the engine being run on alky there’s your moisture. All the people I know who are running alky are always draining their catch can. I run gas and rain it once or twice a year and next to nothing comes out.

Had a GZ originally, hated it. Could not get the damn thing to stop leaking. Sent it back to be rebuilt and still leaked everywhere. I agree with Ed, OEM repurposed junk.

I’ve run a Star ever since. Sure I’m not crazy about the color but the owners shop is 45 minutes from my house. Took mine back and he rebuilt it in front of me taking it completely apart down to the bare housing. Even pressed the bearings out to check them. Once he was done he put it on his custom built pump dyno to verify operation and proper vacuum level. Great guy to deal with.

Oh, and Star offers them in black now. Almost feel like I need to buy a new one just to get black.

where is hose plumbed in the valve cover? I had a set of used valve covers that the vacuum inlet in the valve cover was in a stupid location, it would suck a ton of oil and shyt would be everywhere coming out the breather. Moved the inlet of the pump on the valve cover (along with a valve cover that was a little taller) and fixed most of that mess.

Put me down as another fan of the Star Machine pumps, tanks, drives and accessories. Being about a half hour away from Star I too have had the great benefit of having service done on my early sportsman model while I waited! I did call first! Tim is a great guy to deal with, not a big company but a smaller company that sells a great product!

FWIW you can get a Star pump all black. We have a couple of them that are.

I agree the GZ stuff is cheap and crap.

I also have Moroso 4 vane and a 3 vane on my street car. No complaints.

And they are big and ugly too, especially the pulley. Moroso and Star machine just look so much cleaner and compact on a race engine.

The star definitely is a more finely engineered piece out of all the typical choices. That is a nice unit!
