Troy Morgan - Larry Woodfin Super 10 project
H S,

you may know this, on the Class Racer site under "Class Racer Builds" there is an extensive post [about 57 pages] about the original Super 10 build.

The S-10 platform is a good one, they work well, have easy entering and seating for a big boy like me and have good visibility.

I will post some finished photos next week after I tidy things up and wash off the shop dust. Also will post the first outing results.

It gives me a smile that we have access and contact with so many racers. We all benefit from the sharing.

Larry, I like how you were able to get the radiator up front with the fuel cell. Nice!

Will there be an air filter on this toilet? If no vac pump why not evac?

About the vacuum pump; as an experiment and because it is equipped with a primer plus, we will be monitoring the oil condition for a few races. With the initial startup on gas and raising temp to 170, then switch to methanol, [burned about one gal methanol] then switched back and forth a few times, then raise temp to 180 on gas and turn off. This was about 10 min process, valve covers clean, no milk.

The throttle body will be equipped with a screen from Impact racing.

Stay tuned for test results this Saturday

Larry, I monitor oil temp religiously with my toilet / primer+ sbc. If I don’t have a minimum of 140 degrees oil temp at any time I’ll stay on the primer+ until I do in staging. From 140 the BO can take it to 160 and a full 1/4 run will take oil temp over 200 easily. There is 6 qts in my engine. Depending on the length of travel to my pit area and air temp will determine when I’m back on the primer+ after the run. The last run of the day always back on primer+ after turning onto return road. This will easily get the water to 190 -200 for at least 1 minute with the oil maintaining temp as well when back at trailer. I’ll load the car using the primer+ 1 hr later knowing it’s dried out internally.

Here’s an example of my fuel consumption this past Saturday making Four 1/8 mile runs and returning to my pit area 7/8 mile from end of racing surface. This includes heat soaking the engine to over 180 degrees oil temp and 190 water temp prior to racing. The car used 4 gal of methanol and 3 gal of 93 octane pump gas.

Good Luck and many of us here will be interested in hearing your results.

We experienced some minor, new combination bugs with today's outing. Just to be safe and to double check all the basics we loaded up and came home. Stand by for next outing results soon.

Larry. Here’s something scary that happened to me today at the track after second round while returning to my pit spot. It was in the Mid 90’s and I was leaving the injection on until the last 500’ to my spot. When I turned on the primer plus and pulled the injection off the engine stopped running. I could hear the rear PP fuel pump running and cranked turning the pump off and back on several times. But wouldn’t fire. Left it off and cranked checking the led display light on the MSD Grid and it was blinking. Finally decided to turn the injection back on and it fired up and I drove to my spot.

I removed the hood and found a large pool or 93 octane in the intake valley along with the needle valve. I grabbed a dozen paper towels from the roll and forced them in soaking up all the gas. I’m very fortunate that the fuel didn’t ignite.

I have a 90 degree fitting on mine to make it easier to remove the valve covers. Not sure how old the 3an fitting is. What brand would you recommend for replacement ??

I’m going to make a bracket to support this needle valve when I replace the fitting.

Thought this was worth sharing with you and your new mfi with PP.

I've broke a couple of those while running a Primer plus with the Rons injection. Always kept a spare in the trailer. If it concerns you I would either make a bracket to attach it too or mount it to something solid like your fire wall and then run a hose to the plate

Mark & Steve,

look up a few posts at the pic of Troy's primer plus plate. I now remember it has a tubing type, double swivel. Must be an upgrade Ron's has incorporated.
