I put a Superwinch 3500 atv style in my new trailer. Having always had the traditional trailer "style" Superwinch winches in the past, I was reluctant to switching to the atv style, but I really like it. I was able to mount the solenoid next to the battery, therefore keeping the winch wires unpowered unless being used. The winch is also smaller without the plastic case around it. Runs and sounds very smooth with synthetic rope.

I have a S5000 in my trailer, it'll pull a 3300lb Camaro half way up the ramp door with it still in park. Not that I would do that.

Superwinch no longer make the S series winches which is why I couldn't find a S5500 last year but if you can find a 5000, 5500 or 7500 with synthetic rope, buy it.

Same here....have them in both of my trailers and they work great especially the wireless remote.

A few people on here don't have the skill sets or ability to do something that technical. So they just buy something they didn't really want...

Right now mine just attaches to a D ring in the middle of the floor. My D rings have backing plates which are tied into the crossbeams with angle iron. I went and looked at a friend's trailer that has the winch on the L side of the trailer and a pulley on the D ring. His has a steel backing plate that is tied to the outside floor supports with angle iron. If I ever get around to mounting a winch on the side like that I'm going to tie to the frame rail too.

I mounted my winch on the side. pretty simple deal. I used a piece of 16 gauge steel under the floor that spans between two crossmembers for the mount. It's not so much about me tripping over a front mounted winch cable, but everyone else that would come in my trailer would trip on it. I'm still engineering an adjustable height pulley for when I get the lift.

This made me laugh, and unfortunately, I know exactly how that works.

what fuse or breaker are you using to protect the circuit. I have a power wire that runs through the trailer walls to the back for a winch and want some safety in case of a dead short. and how many amps do you think I need?

I just use a 2000 Warn ATV winch, which is right at 14 years old now. It's smaller than a dedicated automotive style winch, so obviously takes up a little less space. Synthetic rope is the only way to go. ATV winches will last forever in an application like this as they're not seeing dirt/mud/water on a regular basis. Also, the rolling load to pull a car in is what, couple hundred pounds? I recall when I had this same ATV2000 on an open trailer and lost the rear end in the car. The winch drug the car right up the ramps, dragging the rear tires the whole time. The winch didn't like it, but it did it. Only difference was it had a wire rope at the time-I put synthetic on it about 5 years ago because the wire rope is just too hard to deal with when the car's not in the trailer.

There is one downside to synthetic rope though. Sunlight will degrade it, so if you can keep it covered out of the sun, it'll last a LONG time.

I have it mounted in the bottom of the toolbox in front of the trailer, and braced underneath. Also under the toolbox is a 551MF battery from a tractor, which doubles as the breakaway battery. Winch is on a 150A maxi-fuse from a junkyard Ford pickup.

ATV wench for me too. Mine has a wireless remote which i recommend. Probably not as fast as a full size wench but for the money works better then pushing it in.
