Figured I'd post an update. Never heard from Techwest after emails and phone messages.
I sent it to MSD and they called and left a message to call them back to get an estimate.
Here we go again with their phone deal since they didn't leave a name or direct extension to reach them at. Got hung up on once after waiting 25 mins. Called again and got someone that tried to get me connected and she couldn't even get someone. She left me on their hold and 20 mins later I got someone that was going to transfer me. They transferred me and the guy that answered put me on hold for someone else. This is a total joke, nothing but excuses and a crap phone system.
I seriously wish I had thrown it in the trash and bought a used box.

MSD made over 850,000 of the model 6420. If purchasing used, consider buying one with a serial number over 500,000. If no serial number it might be a Chinese copy.

I have serial # 726,599 that I use as a spare 7720 replacement for Grid.

I remember reading an article about the fake MSD boxes. The one in the car now was purchased used to have as a spare, came in handy.
I finally got to a human in tech, he put me on hold to transfer to someone that could help me. When he answered he also put me on hold to get me to the guy that knew about my box. When I finally got to the person he had a bad headset or phone and I thought he was going to hang up but I kept talking and finally he heard me and was able to tell me the price and get the repair going. I can't complain about the price at $60 including shipping back. But what a disaster of a company to deal with.

Is there an extension or direct number you have so a guy doesn't have to repeat your experience? I have a 7al-2 I would like repaired.

I don't have one. Even when they called about the estimate the number, they left was another phone odyssey to get the right person.

My techwest experience. If you want a complete and total hassle, send it to Pat. Once he got my money he stopped answering texts, emails and his phone. Sent him my box on the 18th of Aug, On sept 5th i paid him and he told me the box was done. then NOTHING, left msgs, sent texts, finally sent the local police to his house on 2nd of October, the officer called back and said he was fine and he knew who I was, still would not contact me or send me my box. After I reversed the charges on the credit card he then called me. He fed me a bunch of crap about why he could not answer any texts, emails and his phone.

So maybe you'll be lucky and everything will go fine.
Oh the box works great!

just some info.

i have a programmable 6al that started messing up. i contacted techwest for sh1ts and giggles because they are close to me. nobody answered so i left a message. after reading the comments i had no expectations on a return call. low and behold techwest called me 1 day later about my box and asked what it was doing. i told him the run down and he was very up front and said that he did not have very much success repairing the programmable 6al and said his opinion was to drop it in trash and replace with new. i appreciated his honesty and the return call

ep-for what it is worth

That is my understanding the good thing about 7AL is they can be repaired.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Absolutely. Everything I've ever sent back has this happen to it.
