582 lifter failure
I have a 582 that had Bullet Lifters in it and one has failed and got the cam. So now its time to change the lifters out and cam as well. Just curious as to what everyone is using for lifters on the 582's. I have been told the Comp Cam XD's are very good. Im looking for a non needle bearing option.

Hard to bet against Crower Enduramax or BAM lifters with the bronze bushing IMO.. Both of those are in similar price and have always seemed to do well from what I have seen.

Crower Enduramax or Isky Red Zone. Sorry I am not familiar with BAM lifters

If you had a failure I would look to find the cause. Most of the time it's not the lifter. Check everything or there is a chance it could happen again.

I wouldn’t put a free set of Comp lifters in my engine.

I’ve had good luck with Crower, Isky, and Morel overall and with the bushing lifters from Isky and Crower. I’ve heard there have been some questionable Crower Enduramax out there and have heard good things about BAM.

Have you used the DLC coated axle non needle/bushing lifters?

Considering the Rocker bearing failed and the lifter failing I would say it was either of those 2 as the culprit. Motor had about 500 runs on it also. So im not really sure what else could have caused it considering everything else othe than cam is fine. Probably gonna put a better cam in it with new lifters and rockers.

Denny Steward, he's in Florida. We haven't bought lifters from him yet, but plan to next go around.

Call him, see what he says. We've bought a couple sets of pushrods now, nice.

Bullet are Morel lifters, how many laps did you have on them?

Heck IDK what you call it but it’s a .937 that does not have needles or a bushing....really don’t understand how it works but it does...

I run the Crower bushed lifters in my 454 SBC and have had very good results from them.
With that said I think the larger diameter have the potential to last better.

Also if they failed there must be a reason. Could be too much valve lash or too tight. Could be broken valve spring or valve float, could be geometry off some. Could possibly be bad lifters. I do think as for lifters get the best you can.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Morel needle bearing lifters in all of our engines. We send them out for a rebuild at about 300 runs.

500 runs sounds like a lot, how many runs are others putting on needle bearing lifters?

I also have heard good things about BAM.

Yes that is what I’m talking about. The axle is hardened and has a DLC coating on it and the wheel is plain uncoated hardened steel. The hardened steel just rides on the Diamond Like Coating lubed by the oil. Simple really.

We have been considering them for a procharged engine we are building and I just wondered about your experience with them.

over 700 runs on our .904 Isky EZ Roll bushed before the rods wanted out of the 632.

Over 500 on Comp Cams .904 Sportsman bushed lifters in the 565 and rods are still happy.

Bad News
Care and feeding of roller lifters makes a difference.
Ran Iskys .842 as long as I can remember.
Change them out 3-350 runs, 16 bucks to rebuild.
No extended Idling, dont start it up and walk away to get your stuff to put in the car and let it sit there and idle.
No oil restrictors
Keep the oil clean, fuel removes the lubricity, if you smell gas in the oil, change it.
Valve spring pressures, keep track even with the cheap Moroso pull tester. It will tell you things, you just have to listen.
Lash, keep an eye on lash, it only takes less than 10 minutes to run the valves cold. Once you have established a hot setting.
