What are people's experience?

I double enter a lot and don't have a lot of cool down.

Looking at the Jones, it looks easy enough to build your own.

Ati with cooling converter is nice also. More involved however. Not sure if needed. Cool 6 quarts in pan... When you start it the converter fluid 2 qrts shouldn't drastically increase things...

Have Derale atomic cooler now... Thinking if putting two inline. Either with before mentioned systems or alone.

I run the Jones. Key to getting trans cool is don't let the system run. I cycle it every few mins, give the fluid time to cool off in the cooler. Found this cools the trans way faster. If convertor is still hot once you get most of the heat out of the trans start the motor for 10 secs. I used to do this when i didn't have the jones system.

We have used the Jones system on our last 4 cars. Very happy with it. Simple and easy.

Got a new one for sale if you are interested at a great price. Shoot me a text 208-739-2852

How hot are you getting?

I run two b&m super coolers on mine which work really well on my car. I can double enter make back to back passes and be lucky to see over 180. Ran it this way for years. Problem was trying to get heat in the transmission. I would fight with it being too cool. Coming down the return road, I was lucky to have 125 transmission temps.

I recently installed one of these Oil thermostat and I really thinking that trans temp was played more of a role in consistantly and reaction time. It's so much easier to build and maintain heat in the transmission. It keeps my transmission about 150 degrees, make a pass, it will see 170 or so. And will be down to 150 by the time I hit the pits. Go to make my next run, its usually around 150 or it gets there pretty quick. It really seems like my lights have become more consistant since adding it and I can play closer to the edge.

Bracket racer Text and pm sent on Jones pump

I have racepak and try to get it to 150 for first pass. Temps on a run raises only a degree or two.. But on return road it will get up to 180-190.... And cools fairly well if time is permitted. If doubling in close runs or hot lapping I'll get to 210...

I think it's screwing with my reaction times more than anything. Car is usually within a few thousand thru intervals.

It's a two year old Rossler built power glide. Using b&m trick shift per Carl's recommendation. Change fluid about half way thru season always looks pretty clean.

I found with my car, reaction would be pretty consistent as long as was keeping about the same pace. But it would bite me If I sat for an extended period of time and the trans would get cool or when I go from a slower pace to round robin. My reaction time speeds up when it's cold and slows once it gets heat built up.

My opinion is have excess capacity to cool, and use the oil thermostats to regulate.

I think putting the thermostats would get you to where you want to be. The cooler should stay cooler because you are not pumping fluid though it when it doesn't need to cool. But them once you hit a certain temp it's going to push more fluid though it to maintain the temp and meter it as needed. I think adding a second cooler would narrow the window of the temp maintained.

I kind of agree with Banjo here. I think the thermostat deal is a good idea. As for cooler stuff usec he Moroso double model and it does not get hot. But it does not warm up very quickly and a thermostat could help that.

Also one thing to consider and I may be wrong about it is once it gets up to say 160* the oil is thin and does not change much. Probably a bigger change from 90 to 150 than from 160 to 210?

Regardless the thermostat idea sounds good to me.

Any chance you and I could speak about the tstat setup and or post a pic of where you placed it in the setup. Got the Jones system from bracket mentioned above. Only want to do it once and do it right. I like the idea of the tstat as mine takes a long time up build heat initially. Everyone think running a second cooler/fan is a good idea also. My number is 814.594.2357 if you would like to speak offline. Thx

Thanks for the mention Curtis!

One of the big advantages to our pump around system is it actually pumps fluid through the converter as well. Since the converter is the main source of heat it dissipates heat much faster.

For an example: we tested these in some monster trucks and saw a 60-80 degree change in less than 8-10 minutes.
