The setup/history. In 1981 I bought as a roller, from Gary Harwood, his first super gas, super pro roadster. I completed it in about 5 months, and it was the first Harwood roadster to make it to the track, and I won super pro the first time out.

The roadster suited me perfectly and was a constant round winner. It ran 9.60's with a relatively mild [by today's standards] 355 SBC.

Today, 41 years later, I have the idea build a duplicate of the car. I am in the process of reaching out to several fellows who worked for Harwood in those days. [Including Tod Bevis] It is my hope someone may have the original plans for the chassis.

I do have a folder of photos that show much of the details. It might be possible to create a chassis dimension drawing from the photos.

Two questions.

*Have any of you built a similar chassis?
*Do any of you have plans for a similar chassis?

The follow photo is an example of the car, I have many photos

Larry, I would love to see you build this one. Hopefully you can find some resources that will help you with the design. I bet you wish you had not sold the original! Wondering if you might somehow find someone that owns one of the Harwood roadsters.

I’ve not seen anything similar for current builds because of the 7.50 cert being the only option and you just don’t see any new ‘27s built.

My roadster is somewhat similar but I believe it’s an old Suncoast kit car.

That original was totaled a few years after I sold it due to a ladder bar rod end breaking. The driver was OK, only bruised. After a time of pondering the idea, I have enough photos showing enough details to build the car.

Also, it will be for 1/8 racing with a mild engine, local index or top bulb, so I am not concerned about the certification.

I get that. Mine won’t cert either. I didn’t mean that you should worry about it. Heck I run 5.60s with my old junk.

My research shows Alston still offers a kit to build a similar roadster. I plan to talk with them about the details.

The reply you got on CR sounded promising on a body and/or chassis kit.

would love to follow build. I have been looking for 27T body. The first car we rqaced was a 27T dad built in his garage. He crashed it at Farmingtone after hitting dip in right hand lane at finish line. Car went air born spiraled 3 times, threw motor in to retunn road running wide open till out of fuel(magneto igintion) and land on all 4 with dads legs threw floor. No real injury except him smiling when we removed helmet. Yea rang bell pretty good.

Thinking about a 27T with Hopped up 454 injected and glide. While not cheap far cheaper to maintain than Fed's Hemi stuff. Plus easier for old guy to get in and out of. Loading and driving around easier too. Would still have fed.

Please post pics as you normally do. Always great threads with your builds.
