Jok, also for whats its worth I have had my afco shock rebuilt and it made a big difference. Its like a MSD box you send in or lifters, you call and ask what was wrong, "nothing" and they send it back but yet all your problems are gone..... evidence gone

I have too with same experience. Last time though they told me the shock was old, obsolete, and that I would be better off with a new one, which they valved for my application. It has worked great since. No complaints about Afco from me.

It's the natural reaction of a universal joint, add power to one end and a little resistance to the other.....it tries to straighten itself out. You can be like Mr Wizard and try it with basic hand tools at home Smile So if you have a little negative it gives the pinion a little push upward which is what we are trying to do anyway.

It's very slight and you can notice it in a PS car where everything is looked at under a giant magnifying glass and not 1 horsepower is wasted.

Kinda small ..... but it works ________ enter joke here

Thanks guys.
I heard back from the JR1 guys already, sent them the video and they think the shock is having an internal issue from wear or failure.
They said they sell new JRI and service others. Sounds like someone who wants to earn my business. Shock headed his way next Monday.

I think it is a maintenance item I simply overlooked. It does a lot of work in a short period of time. We are converting to a swing-arm and just want everything fresh to start with.
I agree the standard AFCO is plenty for a car of this horsepower but I think we wore it out over the years. $150.00 for a rebuild and dyno sheet on it..sounds good to me.

Go back to square one and find your real issue. Have you had a professional actually scale the car? What are the weights of all 4 tires on the scale? What is your pinion angle? Where are the 4 link bars set, and where does it throw the center of gravity to based on the intersect point?

IF what I have read is true and you have a dragster running roughly 480’s then you should have no problem with either a Strange shock or an Afco shock

Currently running 450’s on Afco’s in a 4 link and have never even touched the shock setting.

unless you are running 440’s or quicker then I really do not think you can get any benefit from the shock change

This^^^

FYI, the shocks on my Firebird below are Afco and the rear shocks have been in service since 2004, the fronts since 2009.

Nuff said.

I called Miller and had him build me one for my combination going 4.80, 4.60 and the. 4.40’s if I wanted spray. He sent a Penske that had dyno sheets and calving information for each setting. WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

I think our longer than normal 4-link bars make our dragster bit different. Sent a video to them and he said he can make it better as it is a "fast leverage" ratio. This is an OLD CAR, like the driver, 2001 we built it. Still the best chassis I have ever owned, turns on win lights even when it is not at it's best. A little tune-up coming as this is my "retirement year" in RED.

Looking forward to it, been a long time coming. Started doing this in 1969.

Be safe out there!
