Thinking of switching to 1.69 1st gear. Anyone have any before and after results? Does it effect converter drastically? Fall back or stall

I used a 1.64/4.10 combo very successfuly, but I was making about 1000 more HP than what you likely are......

The guy we buy all of our trans parts from told me he didn't think the 1.69 was as strong as the 1.80.

If you're 1/4 mile racing, you're better off 1.80 UNLESS you're boosted big hp, then you could use one, dumps even if you're around 3,000hp.

1/8 mile, if you know what you're doing, you can outrun everyone similar combo. I did anyway.

I put a 1.69 in my Top Sportsman car and it callmed the leave down a ton but didn't affect ET. I have done it in a 2500 lb car with 1700 hp and also a 2650 car with 1200.

This is good to know. I plan on testing a 1.69 low gear transmission next year to calm down the leave in my car. I have been using a lot of launch retard to manage wheel speed currently as I think I have too much SLR with the 1.80 low gear x 4.56 rear gear.

Just like anything else, it can be useful in tuning.. Lots of variables. I've always wondered what would happen if you put one in if you were strictly racing 1/8 to make it so you can change the rear gear from say a 4.10/4.30 to like a 4.56/4.88 or something so you can still have a similar or equal starting line gear ratio and then allow the car to accelerate harder through the rpm range through the 1/8?

The only variables are rpm & torque. And they are both measurable.

How do you measure rpm and torque, you might then say?

By the run replay in your delay box, if you don't have racepak, vs. the time slip.

All you need, nothing fancy.

My car love's it. I had to put a 1.80 back in while in Vegas but with my 4.10 gear it is too aggressive. Pulled the front tire right out of the beam. As far as a difference my car slows around .03 in the 60ft along with the same in ET when on motor only. It is quicker by about .05 when spraying with the 1.69 over the 1.80,2045lb dragster running 4.36 to 4.40 on motor only.

I run the sonnax 1.69 planetary with the ring gear stabilizer upgrade and ran some high 3.70 and some 5.96 1/4 passes and she holds up fine.

This is a Sonnax extreme 1.69, I picked this up for $400, with 20 laps on it.

I bet they're OVER $2000 dollars now.

Went 1.27 60ft on a 10 x 28 bias tire at 3200 lbs off the trailer n/a 23 sbc, with a set of Brodix T1 heads.

I'd like to see someone match that.

I've debated about the 1.69, but maybe for an odd reason. I have the OEM 1.76's going 6.15-6:30, but in a 97" WB ladder bar car, I can't launch at 4500+ or it will be, lets say, really dependent on the wheelie bars. I'm not too concerned about ET, and my SLR wouldn't be as affected as going form 1.80 to 1.69, since I'm at 1.76 now, but those days might be numbered..
