Mark Payne now has alternators with adjustable voltage regulators for this exact reason. Important with lithium batteries also. SL...

Is anyone here running Gilmer pulleys for the alternator? If yes, from what source did you purchase?

Not Gilmer but HTD. Jones is the go to.

^^^^ Yes, I’m looking at HTD. The belt lengths are limited, and going to plot out (pulley diameter and distance) to see if what I would need is available.

Call Jones and tell them what you have. He will give you the complete set up from pulleys to belts and send you a quote on top of it. Good people to work with and they know what we need.

I switched to 16v with power master alternator. It's for sale for with the charger for the simple reason I double enter every race and I couldn't use teams cooler and fans to cool it with the lower reserve and quick rate they run the races. I had no time to charge enough before runs and battery would get low. I put two red top batteries back in and feel better about the cooling and not running low. This 16v and charger are for sale. They are brand new. Would work great without the double entries and the tracks I race wanting to get everything over with by 2pm

A lot of us have switched back to 12 volt systems. One thing I will probably always run from now on is the 139 tooth starter. They are so much stronger and broken teeth on flexplate are a thing of the past. A huge improvement. As for the 16 volt system like a 12 volt system if everything is right they will work good but they are no real improvement in my opinion after running them. They do spin over faster but go dead quicker. Never had problem with 12 volt system and 16 volt system has cost me several rounds or races. Much of the reason was I got my tune up off on the mechanical injection and it just did not want to start quickly until pump was primed good. Still a loss is a loss and I want to eliminate that. With a carb I may not have ever had a problem. One other thing with the 12 volt system you have a warning it will start slower like one time it seemed to start slow. When I got back to my pit I checked data logger and my alternator had quit working. With a 16 volt there is not much of a warning, it spins over real good and then it will not start when it gets low. On my car that was around 13 - 14 volts car would not start. With 12 volt system is starts down to 11? or so and you get a little warning. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge. If not there is no point to argue. 4X NE2 CHAMPION. 2020 TDRA NE2 Champion

Called Jones, they knew everything I needed for 2-1 ratio and belt length. Showed up yesterday and fits perfect. The aluminum crank V-pulley that was on the past 4 yrs was badly grooved and the source of my slipping problem. This message has been edited. Last edited by: markemark,
