Adjuster nut on T&D shaft rockers
Give me some possible reasons why an adjuster nut may back off. My uncle is running a set on his brodix 16 degree heads and the #8 intake adjuster nut keeps backing off after maybe 15 runs. Kept him from running in the finals last night.

I'd vote also with underlying problems. If everything is right they wont move that much.

bad threads on adjuster and or nut ,seat area not machined square anymore, wild longshot look at the cup and pushrod for wear, maybe poor lube and combination af things, the pushrod is trying to turn the adjuster.this could be from bent pushrod

X 3 on checking for something else that can cause the problem, like maybe a lifter. Worth looking into before something far worse /more expensive dies.

I would say you have some other issue causing it. Wrong length push rods, coil bind, valve float, lash problem or something.

Ok so he just text me and said that he adjusted the valves cold. He got lucky. Pushrod wasn't bent but he's gonna replace it. The cup for the pushrod on the rocker arm was pretty beat up too.

no issue with adjusting them hot or cold. IMO, no reason to adjust them hot after the first time. adjusting them "cold" is safer and no mess

adjusting cold is fine but must be tighter than hot setting.and i will add after setting them cold and checking hot and rechecking cold i have learned that all of them dont grow exactly the same.close enough though

The first time I adjust them I do it hot to specs. Then I let it cool and check it again to get the cold specs. It is about .002 difference on my motor. Really does not matter if you do it hot or cold as long as you end up with right lash when it is hot.

He may not have checked them hot. Not sure. All he said was he checked them cold. We will see this coming weekend.

Look on the bright side.

If it ever doesn't make the shift again, on time. Ya'll will now know the maintenance needed to make it up for the following round.
