I do! no need for an aftermarket case when I only have a small block and a CSR carbon shield.

Excellent, I'd spend the little extra for an aftermarket SFI case, like Edward is suggesting.
This will be $2590 delivered? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mike Rietow, July 20, 2020 11:30 AM

So what's the benefit of that case over a stock one, other than H.P. ratings?

I’ve made hundreds of runs with stock cased shorty glides. Never a problem in 2 different dragsters
Old car had a lightning fast trans with a std brake and a stock 1.76 gear set. I replaced it with an aftermarket gear set just to be more reliable. I sold it with the car and wish I did not. That was an excellent trans.
Bought an Abruzzi Trans with a stock case and still have it. Ran it for years with no problem. Redid it myself and changed valve bodies looking to speed up car reaction for Pro Tree racing.
Still have it as my spare in my trailer. Bought a Dedenbaer cased used Trans that expired. Had it re-certified and it’s been in my car a while.
The stock case trans is quicker, not by much but it is faster reacting.
Shields are cheap. Easy to install.
Only thing I ever broke was a p/g splined input
TSI Transmissions were very popular around here for years.
They were big proponents of Spragless converters.
I had one converted from sprag to spragless. Worked fine.
I don’t know who owns/runs TSI anymoreThis message has been edited. Last edited by: SCDIV1, July 20, 2020 12:06 PM

Stock case is fine until it pushes the band screw out, and everything follows it out the side of the case
I've never had it happen, but I've seen it up close! Ever since I saw that, I've always suggested SFI case. I made the switch as well, for that reason.
Drag racing is tough enough, you start dumping oil, and doing donuts on the track, you're going backwards, if it you happens to clip the wall.
Either way you'll be alright OP, good luck!

No question an aftermarket case is generally better than a 50 year old stock case. And highly recommended
But if you have some good casting stock cases and good internals, they are pretty tough.
I've rarely seen a p/g bust open no matter what case it was...
I did see one split open a couple seasons ago on a hardtail dragster owned by a friend.
Don't recall what the case was but it cracked open in the reverse clutch/piston area.
Spraying trans fluid out on the back tires in any ride is not good....I'd rather not experience that....

I’ve broken a few bellhousings over the years. Went to a SFI case after the last one.
It’s so much easier to get the bellhousing bolts from below, and dropping in the dipstick tube without having to snake it through the shield.
My spares have stock cases but I wouldn’t buy a new piece that way.

I've got one TSI complete shorty glide and another Reid case with TSI internals I would definitely recommend them great products and they have one guy that builds all their transmissions.

if you dont have a need to raise the pressure a stock case is fine, higher pressure will cause issues somewhere

Are you talking about a certain PG SFI that exploded from either the planets and or the reverse exploding? Trans had a liner in it also. I run the liner and the external shields.
I saw the pic. WITH... I had the internal C clip break in the coupler that holds the internal plug in. I was lucky. Rear of car was covered. This message has been edited. Last edited by: TD3550, July 28, 2020 07:03 AM
