Dart Big M block vs Brodix Equivalent
Looking to hear from anyone running a Brodix tall deck BBC. I know a lot of guys running the Big M.
I am curious why the Brodix block is $1100 less than the Dart. (Summit, Jegs, and others all have the exact same pricing for a 10.2" Deck, 4.500 or 4.600 bore). Dart = $3571, Brodix = $2472.
Both have all the same features, priority main oiling, added bosses for head studs, Nodular main caps, etc. The Brodix has .903" lifter bores, the Dart has .842's.
Unless there is a substantial reason to stay away from the Brodie, (none I have heard of), why pay the extra for the Dart?

Jegs said estimated ship date 08/15/24 for the Brodix!

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Yes, and not a lot better for the Dart, 4/11/24.

I ordered a dart 10.2 BBC block about 6 weeks ago from a local dealer, they said 14 to 22 weeks, it arrived last week! So who knows!

I have not seen the Brodix block but have heard the dart is better but no specific details.

So to me the brodix block looks a lot like a blueprint block. I believe I read the brodix block also needs the mains align honed.

I know that when the Brodie iron blocks first came out they used the same core boxes as the Blueprint blocks and Brodie was added to the pattern.

Curtis, does that mean the Brodix block is a Blueprint casting? Or is Brodix casting the blocks for Blueprint?

Jim, Brodix doesn't pour any cast iron. Whatever foundry was pouring Blueprint blocks did the Brodix blocks also is what I read.

1K difference for the same part is a big deal. If the Brodix/Blueprint blocks are cast in the US and of equivalent quality I guess I'd consider one.

I've heard the nickel content isn't the same on the Brodix. No personal experience with Brodix however.

Really happy with my Dart Big M Block. All the custom machine work was done by Dart, bore, deck, .904 lifter bores, large cam bearing tunnels with bearings installed, all perfect. All I had to do was clean it, check it and assemble it. All the work was spot-on perfect.

Measured some cylinder walls on Brodix, Big M and Bowtie blocks today. At 4.600 - 4.610 bores, the Big M was marginally thicker in a few spots (.025) but everything measured .300+ on thrust and non-thrust surfaces.
Brodix block has "BPE" on main caps, so that answers that question. Main caps are just as beefy as Bowtie and Dart.

Busted Knuckles, thank you for taking the time to measure the wall thicknesses on those 3 blocks, and share that info. Good catch on the Main Caps, so I think we can safely assume the Brodix is a Blueprint block.

Denis (SP 124X) mentioned above that he heard the Brodix block must be align-honed before assembling. I stumbled across that same info last night, (I don't remember where), but does anyone have any idea why that would be the case?
Especially if the Dart is delivered with all machining completed, and ready to assemble, as Bob / RProGas stated?
Confused
I am thinking if I'm buying a block that is machined to my desired dimensions for cylinder and lifter bores, and I tell them the stroke, brand and journal diameters of the crankshaft I intend to use, why would I want (or need) to immediately bring it to a machine shop for that one final operation?

Brodix has as far as I know, always required their blocks to be align honed by the end builder. I had a conversation years ago with them about this and was told then they finished the main bores undersized about .010 so the builder can finish to his preferred sizing.
