Dual parachutes - softer hitting?
I recently put dual stroud 430-24 chutes on a 2k pound dragster. Stroud said this is the smallest dual chute that they make.

When we pulled the chutes 1/4 mile at ~222mph they hit so hard it broke something internally in the delay box and felt like it was going to crash.

While pulling one chute would likely solve the issue, I can't really get on board with having two chutes but them not both being able to be used. Are there any better options that would be smaller / hit less hard?

I had Stroud 430 chutes on my TD, the one time I pulled both was at Bowling Green and the wind caught them and tried lifting the back of the car up and turn me sidrways at 200 plus MPH, not fun at all!!.
Even when I pulled one they hit hard and were very aggressive. I finally made the switch to a smaller softer hitting White safety chute, was a great decision, they stopped just fine with one chute plus they were much easier to pack

I had a DJ safety chute on a blown altered and it always opened smooth, and was easy to pack compared to my buddies dang near using a D9 Cat Dozer to cram their chutes in.

Best advice I can give to anyone who pulls the chute most every run is install air launchers, makes packing the chute so much easier not having to deal with the pilot spring.

I've ran Diest, Simpson and Stroud. Out of all of them, Stroud are the softest hitting, the Simpson felt like they were trying to rip my car in half.

I'd love to run air launchers, but just not gonna happen....Unless you want to buy them for me Steve..... Laughing Hard

Speaking of chutes,,, What brand do y'all feel packs easier/better? I had to replace the chute on my car while getting it squared away for racing and it was a sum***** to pack. my 1st time as well, so maybe my inexperience led to the difficulty. Simpson, same as what was already there, if that matters. Having never deployed one, I'm curious how it's going to feel when I do pull it.

I'm a stroud fan. Stuff them into the D-bag and stuff them into the pack. Pretty easy if you ask me....

Run one big and one small chute if can.I know lots do it for weight and less hit. Can also set up on timer on air solenoid if like and hit one then other, I did this on alky dragster. Hit at 250 niot really bad. Lot better than two big pones at sme time. Agreeon air launcher.
