You obviously have a trans issue based on your several threads, posts, comments.

Mike BeckI'm taking it that the OP wants to know how hot the fluid is going into the cooler, plus already has one in the pan. I should try it. I have two coolers in series, one with a fan one without. Have a sensor in the pan. My EFI can accept PLENTY of extra sensors, just gotta wire them up.

I'm thinking he wants to know how much heat the cooler is taking out of the fluid

ski_dwn_itHere are my thoughts.
It doesnt matter what location you pick as long as you have a baseline or comparison.
I would think the pan is as good as anywhere and likely the least risk area for a major problem that could potentially cause a leak.
If in the pan and you baseline it agaist performance. You can 1. see if you left at the same temp vs performance. 2. If you left at the same and something is changing causing excess heat generation during a run vs other run data.
I see it as irrelevant to the location.
If the trans gains 30* during a run, and you see it all of a sudden gain 40-50* I would be concerned if over the last 50runs it was consistently only 30*. if you leaving at all different temps then that too is a problem....but all relative to that setup/trans/fluid.
Find what is normal, try to keep it the same and then monitor for change.

Mike BeckMine gains maybe 2* in a pass, full pass, 1/4 mile. Heat soak going back to my pit spot is a different story!

1320racersame here, 1-2 degrees on a 1/4 mile pass.

I'm thinking he wants to know how much heat the cooler is taking out of the fluid
Or, he wants to know how much heat is generated by the converter....
