Winter fuel?

Last month I fueled up at Costco. Didn’t man much attention but the fuel gage went down quickly! I commute 66 miles in a 1999 GMC 1500 5.0. Zero Hp!
Usually I get 16-17 combined. I’m checking today and I’m sure I’m below 12 mpg!
I thought I had a fuel leak!
Went online to see several Costco mileage complaints.
So where is the win here? I’m burning way more fuel and paying more!

BP, I always use Costco gas in my Buick and I can’t honestly say I’ve seen any change in mileage

Your area might be requiring higher ethanol content which would cause your fuel economy to go down. No ethanol fuel here in Alaska!!

So we’re using double the fuel now burning this garbage! Where’s the good in that?

All Ca fuels mandated 10% minimum…… so I wonder where it is?

Sounds like you got a load of water contaminated fuel.

I got a load in my old TBI dually once, "burned" 14 gallons to get about 35 miles, at near WOT to maintain highway speed....burned both tanks to get from South Indy to Kokomo (about 70 miles).

Filled up there, and had no more issues.

Called Gas America Monday morning a got a full refund, no questions asked. Guy was just glad I wasn't trying to claim damages.

Last time I accidentally got watered fuel, I put a couple of gallons of E-85 in the tank and ran it all out, no issues. Car seemed to like it. '05 Grand Prix.

BP, try and find a station that sells ethanol free fuel. There are still a few in your area

When I was working in Denver and driving the round-trip to Dallas twice a month, I had a real good handle on my fuel consumption and checked my MPG several times. Always averaged right around 13 MPG, varied about 1 or 2 either way if I had a stiff headwind or tail wind. Filled up with E-15 once at some station in S.E. Colorado, and it dropped my fuel mileage a bunch, like 3 MPG.

This would be my guess. NOT water, I almost guarantee it.

So yesterday on my way to S&S Automotive I noticed my temp gage was way cooler..
I’m guessing you are correct as my 98 GMC can’t adjust for that fuel. It says 10 % minimum on their pumps , doors wide open right? But think about how many older cars this will create havac with!!

We have that around here, but it's labeled as 90 octane "premium", and about $1.25 more per gallon than regular.

I'd say buy, borrow or make an ethanol content bottle like the E85 racers use to check their fuel ratio. This way you'd know for sure.
Just for my own curiosity when I bought gas this week I looked at the pump and it didn't have any markings at the Murphy station. I'll have to look at the other pumps as I'm sure they have 10% ethanol at least. We do have a station that sells pure gas locally.

Not too surprising, pure gas is common in OK. Not every where but enough you can get it when you know the local market.
