Powder coating
Anybody doing their own powder coating? What are you using for an oven?
Ideally I'd like something 2'x 2'x 4'tall. But, if you can lay the coated piece on a rack without causing a blemish I wouldn't need the 4' tall to hang things.
Building a new car and I've got tons of small parts to do.

Dave,

I’m going to do cerakote, maybe powder later. I’m looking at an electric smoker for an oven. They are upright so I think they’re better suited for taller stuff and for hanging parts. Good luck!

We have a couple of these at the our company that our R&D guy bought. Harbor Freight no longer sells them but here is one.

I have a large commercial convection oven. Bought it at an auction. Works great.

Somebody on this site did the body of their dragster in powder coat a number of years ago. They had to do some cutting and buffing. But in the pictures it looked like a regular paint job when he was done with it.
Nothing to do with the price of tea in China. Just remembered it.

if you want to do a few parts of your own do a google search for "pregnant oven" plenty of pics on how guys took a house oven and made an extension box for it to do longer parts.....its always easier to hang longer parts from 1 hook vs doing some magic trick type stuff to put a long part in a short oven.

the eastwood gun is a decent gun for the money for a hobbiest. the powders are good also as they are tiger drylac, but eastwood is kinda pricey, you could look into other online companys that sell powder buy the pound, like allpowderpaints.com or prismatic powders.

dont buy the junk from harbor frieght its not very uv stable and will chaulk

ground is key with the cheaper gun, running a dedicated grounding rod will make for a huge improvement over using the guns ground as that rely's on your electrical system to make it work.

Can you lay the part on a rack without it leaving a mark where it's touching the rack?

I have the Eastwood dual voltage system, works fantastic. DO NOT buy the IR heaters they sell. I got the small one and tried to bake a intake never really got it to temp of 400 even though it was as close as I dare place it. The consumer oven is the ticket for hobbyist. and I'm going to check out the box extensions someone said they added.
