Is it just me or is moser quality really been dropping especially in comparison to the mark williams stuff?
I raced with the moser guys for years.I always liked them and wanted to purchase their products especially with their support of drag racing, but i have to admit after several recent purchases their fit, finish and quality control is not good.Their customer service and support is fine but the products, especially axles, center sections and realated components are fair at best.
Right now im in need of a center section where mark williams is 3445.00 and moser is 2780.00,but from my recent experiences the 665.00 difference is well worth it for the mark williams product.
Is anyone else seeing the differences or know whats going on over at moser??

I don't know if there's a difference. I purchased a complete rear-end with their brakes about 3 years ago. I have made 250+ passes on it & 60's in the high 1.20 range @ 3000+ lbs. We just swapped out the gears from 3.89 to 3.55 & the old gears look great.

If you're on the fence about, when in doubt spend the coin & get the MW stuff!

Not sure about moser, but happy with strange stuff

Haven’t really heard many complain about strange, MW, or Moser

Any axles I’ve ever seen break were because they were old and under sized

I gotta agree with you and alot of their stuff survives.I dont think they make the actual gearsets i think they use US gear?

I just built a Moser Thru Bolt. Yeah agree it's not as pretty as a MW but I thought the fit/finish was very good for the price.
I did buy a MW aluminum driveshaft.. Eek 1500.00.
I have a MW 37.5" c-c on ujoint for sale 500.00. It was 2 inches to short for the Avenger.

David i wouldnt say pretty cosmetically its more the machine work and its precision.just seems like tolerances are extremely +/- on the moser stuff.

I bought a set of 35 spline axles in June of last year. Everything I measured was right on. I'm a 40 year machinist and finish is a big deal to me. I can't say a bad word about what I got. Now with that said, QC is one of the hardest things for me to stay on top of at my shop.

With the quality of employees that are available to choose from it's a never ending battle to idiot proof my processes. They keep making better idiots. Just my 2 cents and things can change in less time than it has been since I got my stuff.

I'm a solid Mark Williams customer, have been for decades.

Buying because of price is like buying oats, you can always buy them cheaper after they've gone through the horse.

Sorry, it's an old farm joke.

I think you answered your own question when you said you thought the $665 extra for Mark Williams was worth it.

Curtis had some very good points about Quality Control and getting good employees now. He is certainly right, especially about making it idiot proof and building better idiots....

With business you are always trying to get best performance, quality and price you can to stay competitive. All salary's you pay has to be added in to cost of manufacturing.

I understand what you are saying.
MW is a quality piece no doubt. I'm just saying without getting out the mic's and other measuring equipment I have no issues with the Moser carrier.
In the past month I have built a Moser, a MW, and a Strange. No issues with any of them as far as the case is concerned.

My personal preference is the MW, then Moser Thru bolt.
A few years back Strange used inserts in theirs for all the threaded h oles. The inserts seized the bolts and would not stay in the housing. That is the only thing I had against Strange. The last one I did was not constructed the same way.

For price vs quality I like the Moser stuff. It's all I use and I've used all the others. I think there will always be a nicer product no matter what you're looking at.

Yes a filet is better than a sirloin, but you're gonna pay for it. End game they both do the job.

John Parkes' Ultratech dragsters are as nice as they come. But I still see a lot of people winning in 2010 Race Tech dragsters.

I'd say buy what you feel you can afford and want. And if it matters who gives back the most to the racers and our sport, hands down it's MOSER Engineering.

When i built my American, i bought a new center section from Moser. I got 3 seasons and about 400 runs out of the gear. I took the center to Indy Gear and had him rebuild it and it was .05 and 3 mph faster. If buying new, i would call Wayne @ indy gear and order a MW built by him.
