Race at altitude – 2700 to 4800 ft – Mild 555 with a 1050 carb – running high 8.3 to 8.4 – motor turns 7400 in the lights. Would love to slow it down to 9 sec to run Pro. Any idea what size hole I should start with on a restrictor plate?

We started running high gear all the time on both cars at the beginning of the season. One is a 2800lb door car going 9.6-7 and 10.1x in high and my dragster goes 7.50s and 8.0s in high. I think the converter takes a lot more of a beating than the actual trans does. I don't think my wife has seen over 200 degrees for the trans temp yet. My dragster on race in July I staged for the first of two TT at 124 deg and staged in the 7th round at 164 degrees. I modified two leaf blowers with pvc pipe to blow directly on the converter and trans pan.
Been running high gear all year. 5.70s in low 6.0s in high. 2000lb roadster. I’ve done it in years past also. I bought one of the larger carpet dryer type fans that has worked well. Has never hurt my trans but it does take you a while to get used to the way it lays on the converter. The extra MPH for the slower ET is nice. People will also make mistakes against you thinking they you won’t get to them because you move so late on them.
Still managing the heat is the biggest deal.

Our door car has the same converter it had when we left in first it stalls around 300 higher. I ordered a new BTE converter at the same time I installed the high gear brake. Chance set me up with a 9" that was specd for low gear stall of 6400 and high gear stall of 6800. It ended up being 6600 and 6800 and has been deadly both ways.
