WHOMPWHOMPAnd just for the record my 9 degree had its tongue hung out at Scott’s very own DRR SERIES at HUNTSVILLE…was a very reliable piece….ruff on rearends though lol…

1320racerSo who else is building these $40k+ 648, 655, 665, 9 degree engines approaching 1400 HP with a single carb and wet sump?
Post the dyno videos.

Bob DenikerNot long ago, my 632 with HHs and 1090 hp was impressive. These new combos are unreal now.

LOL...I actually feel your pain. I have a 174x headed 632 that runs .40s and .50s and it aint sheet!

Mark YeagerI'm very happy with Joe and the SPE gang on this build. They have been building engines for me for many years, and never disappoint!
I had some great discussions with Joe, and what I was looking for on this engine, and he nailed it.
FYI, this will be for S/G and Brackets. I should be testing in a couple weeks.

Mark, what kind of speed are you hoping for in S/G trim?

jsupergasracerMy 632 Sunset 9* made 1330hp and 1018 torque. And that is with a SCAT crankshaft. They have a great handle on the 9* stuff.

1320racerI wouldn’t be bragging about using a scat crank.

NOT saying its the best choice, but i put 1500 hp with nitrous to a scat crank a few years ago for 3 seasons, and that cranks is still perfect. Its actually in a spare engine right now.

jsupergasracerWhy not brag about SCAT crank? It works just a good as any other forged crank out there for less money. I chose to use a SCAT to prove a point that you do not need to spend a ton of money to make good power. I could have chosen to use several other manufacturers cranks, however I wanted to build a reliable over 1300 hp engine for well under 40K. And I accomplished that.

pauleyi guess i will continue to figure out how to drive from being out front.
ep-yes i am a broke dyck with slow junk. but hey, it works for me.
i am not seeing these super fast combos winning every week in anything. i think you just need to be in the middle or at best the faster side of the middle.

They typically don’t break on the dyno. Come back and brag after you’ve put 1000 passes on it IF you can.

pauleyit is like the bass boat analogy my Dad gave me one time. I said Pops, why does a man need a bass boat that will run 75 mph for. he never checked up and said when his buddy has one that will run 70 mph.
when a mans buddy is going 4.30s he has to have one that will go 4.20s. and neither one of them are turning on many win lights.
ep-this is strictly my opinion

329LHow often will you have to change valve springs and lifters in that engine? How many runs can you make before a freshen?

jsupergasracerI had about 150 runs on the engine when I took it back to Sunset for them to look at/freshen as well as do a little more work to the intake. It really did not need to go back but it had been through 2 race seasons and wanted to update the intake. We did put lifters and Springs in at that time. It did not need valve springs but why wouldn't I since the heads where already apart being look at. It won't go back to Sunset till it has over 200 runs this next time.

It will run 180 +, but I'll probably run 177 +/-. We'll see what the car wants.

100-125 on Springs
200-225 on Lifters
300-400 on Rods and Pistons
Most of my SPE motors have had that kind of maintenance schedule. (Except my No2 762 T/D engine. It gets rebuild every 100 passes)
