what is the lowest you cool it down to between rounds and what to stage at. I always thought never under 170.

I like to go into burnout box at 160*, 170 stage and 180 after run and after run I usually do not cool it at all. By the time I am back up for next round usually having to put more heat in it. If the weather is cool I will put a blanket over motor to help keep heat in. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge. Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue. 4X NE2 CHAMPION. 2020 TDRA NE2 Champion

Depends on the time of year and what round we are in. I have staged from 140 to 160 and haven't really been able to see much difference with my combination. 170 and above will show some movement et wise which for me is hard to get to. I hope to add a water temp to my data recorder to better track this. It's really hard to compare different engine and fuel system set ups. I am still trying to learn alcohol tuning. Is this a result of being really fat on the tuneup?

This. I go into the burnout at 170 with the fan on, and can typically stage at the same temperature. Click the fan off when both cars are prestaged, and from then on I'm trying to build heat so I don't need to waste additional fuel before the next pass. Tony Leonard

Alky carb should be no different than injection. I have always staged or had brother stage 150 to 160 that way plus or minus 10 is of little to no effect. As for cool down depends on system, how you build heat and weather. America home of free. Brought to you by 2nd amendment.

Yes a little. It seems to be more consistent on the fat side. Along with a filled block it cools down really fast. I run 180 at the starting line. Even on the hottest days i put the fan on and it will cool down. Stephen Liss jr

It's all in the idle mixture which is a combination of the blade gap and barrel valve on an injected setup. You can arrive at the same idle RPM different ways, with a lean barrel valve and tight blade gap or with more blade gap and a richer barrel valve. The richer the idle mixture, the cooler the car will run. Note this has little to nothing to do with the overall tuneup. With that said, I run our stuff on the lean side. Someone else recently phrased it well, I try to get it to build heat with the fan off but be controlled with the fan. I try to go into the water at 165 and I'm usually 180 on the return road.
