20 years ago I had a 6 point chrome moly roll bar with both side bars swing outs, custom bent for my Chevelle with the chassis shop removing and reinstalling whatever was necessary of my interior, for $900 without paint. At the time the highest price I got was $1,500 from S&W and they would not R&R the interior.
Even if you want to say they are charging you $1,000 to paint it, there’s no way your 6 point bar should cost 4 times what I paid 20 years ago.This message has been edited. Last edited by: 1320racer,

I am not saying it should cost 4500 just stating a few factors can add up, installing this in a stripped car vs a full interior is definitely a cost consideration, plus some customers want very specific placement of the bars have very specific needs with respect to the modified interior so that would also add cost.

Right now 4130 is over double in cost than it was a year ago and I’m hearing a lot of chassis shops are booked out over 6 months right now and I agree with I would go right to an 8.50 cage

I have full interior in my Nova with the back seat. I’m glad it only has a 6-point bar because it runs about 10.10 and I can’t be tempted to make the car any quicker. This is what it will run forever.

disagree, it all depends on the car and the long term ET goals. My goal with my former Chevelle was 10.00 as it was the class ET cutoff. When the ET cutoff for the class was lowered to 9.00, I sold the Chevelle, too nice to cut it up and at nearly 4000 lbs. the wrong tool to run in the 9's with.

It easily could. When we did the cage in the firebird I pulled the front and rear glass out and gutted the entire dash in order to run the front bars as close to the A-piller as possible and thru the dash, not in front of it. I rarely if ever see a cage as neatly tucked away as ours and most people never even notice it has a full cage. And let's not even talk about the techniques required to actually weld the entire cage without having to use gussets, that's an art all in itself !!!!
$4500 seems a bit high at first for a six point, but given the price of material and consumables these days it's probably not far off for nice work.
And what type of car are we talking about anyway ????

I thought I would be close. I would expect $2880-$3600 to be clean and correct if done at a full time chassis shop. Knock off about $700 on both ends if it's a smaller one man deal. JMO
That's not to say a one man place can't do just as good of a job but the overhead is smaller.

The OP doesn’t need a big name, multi man chassis shop whose core business is building complete cars, he just needs the right guy/shop to install a custom 6 Point roll bar that disappears in a full oem style interior and leaves that interior fully intact, unmodified.This message has been edited. I'm actually surprised you could find someone to do it. It's amazing the amount of work out there that people won't do because it's a "small job". I'm sure you could find cheaper but you'll still be waiting for it be to be done at this time next year. Last one I had done was by Gene at Wild Rides. Told him I had a pre cut kit and he said " keep it, i'll build my own". He did an excellent job and I painted myself. Try finding someone to paint a car!!!! That's an adventure.

It's a 72 dodge charger, a street / strip car more strip than street lately. last year I built a new engine for the car now the car runs mid 10s. I've been racing it all year with out a roll bar but now people are noticing how fast the car is and hassling me about not having a bar in the car. I'm reluctantly putting a roll bar in the car because its such a blast to drive at track. It's a really nice car, clean. The interior is all finished factory stock. I want the roll bar work to fit the interior as is and to be a professional installation . I don't mind paying professional price but I have no idea what is a reasonable cost or who does quality work. first time I've needed this kind of work done.

Correct, $4500 is ridiculous for that. I’d keep looking for somebody else to do that. There are plenty of guys like me who do this type of work as a side gig and can do a fine job for you. You just gotta find that guy in your area. I’ve done 8.50 10 point cages, Chromoly, bent in house to fit as close as possible for just over half of that quote. 6 point bar for a guy who knows what he’s doing is a pretty simple deal.

It amazes me at some of the prices I hear on this stuff. I have done three roll bars in 15 years. The last one was a street car that now runs 4.50's....lol. That car is getting a 25.3 soon. I believe I charged $1200 for that plus swingouts on both sides. Roll bars are a major pain the butt. Not many people have 1.750" tubing in the rack or even dies to bend it since all other chassis tubing is 1.625" or smaller. Plus I have 2-3 sticks in my rack of 1.750" and I always have to be careful not to grab it by accident. I've already decided I'm not interested in doing roll bars anymore. Maybe why the price was set so high?

On a side note, I just bought another 500' of moly tubing just because I'm scared of shortages in the near future. Price was up 37% from last year.
