How High is too much heat in racing trans fluid if going multiple back-to-back rounds? Is 190* maximum at finish line excessive?

We are 125-130 when rolling to water box and never see 200 back at our pit, using Allison’s Transynd.

190 at the stripe is no big deal. When I’m running high gear only and getting hot lapped I have zero problems nor consistency issues rolling into the beams at 170-180.

Depending on the combo, how loose the converter is, and the kind of fluid you are running will determine if that temp is high or not. Does it lose mph as the trans temps come up? I used to see those kinds of temps with EVERYBODYS fluid, and especially when i tried hydraulic oil. When switching to transynd 668, i never seen 200, except the time i was doubled at 4 cars, and my car was running 4.52 that day.

Other determining factor is how high the fluid level is. It should be ON the full line at 180 degrees. If you are 1" or more above the full line at that temp, it will run 10-20 degrees warmer.

I’ll add, that assuming the dipstick length/submersion in pan has been verified to be correct, fluid level should be at add line upon initial cold fill.

On your reply Ed, where does one find the correct specifications on dip stick depth into the pan? Also , does a deep pan change this depth? As long as I’ve done this I’ve never given this spec a thought.

This is good to know Curtis as I’m in launch gear for half of the run time.

I’ve never doubled until this past weekend and ended up running 6 passes in 85 minutes. The last 5 passes it recorded finish line trans temps of 184 -190* the highest I’ve experienced when racing. The starting line flash was normal 6300 +/- on all runs.

Going through my ECU programming today I did find that I had the transmission fan set at 182* to go On which is an error easily corrected. The fans are set not to run at over 75% throttle during a run.

I set the fluid level at under 120* to the bottom fill mark on the dip stick and am using TES 295.

Sounds like you’re good

That is great. I run my trans cooler fan, pretty much from the water box back to the trailer, and havent seen any issues with doing so. If i was you, id lower the fan set point a touch, but with the temps you are reporting it will be fine.

I have seen 215 to 220 degrees when doubled late rounds, especially running high gear only on 100 plus degree summer days and nights. No issues or changes resulting from the higher temps.

With what fluid?

O'rielly brand type F or Mercon, used for years in multiple cars.

That’s amazing!!! Is this still the preferred fluid you’re using today????

Uh oh. Here we go. Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

Chris, I know your stuff is deadly, and you know what you are doing, transynd would help your game by CONSISTENLY lowering trans temps. I have used everything known to man, based off what i have seen in customers transmissions. And by far, the transynd is BETTER than ANYTHING out there, including ANYBODYS racing transmission fluid. And it is cheaper than MOST transmission fluids out there. With that being said, if it works, well....

without question Allison's Transynd made by Castrol which I have used since '05 will lower his trans fluid temps
