imho there is no ideal ET/MPH for door cars. I’ve seen it won in the 5’s and 7’s. RT rules in door car. The only advantage the faster car has is first red loses.
Also, I see a good amount of door cars running slightly slower than 6.39 to keep from having to upgrade in safety equipment.

i think it is determined by your ability to drive the finish line,from being chased or chasing. some people can do either way,some not as easy being chased.i also like leaving last for red light thing,but that is changing in some places..4.80 motors are a dime a dozen(relatively speaking)

You know, this kinda sounds like the makings of a good project for Michael Beard. He is great at collecting, organizing, and analyzing raw data. I bet that for Loose Rocker events, he can very quickly pull up the dial ins of most of the finalists he has had. Now, that wouldn't prove any particular dial/ET is an actual "sweet spot", but I think it still might be interesting data to poke at. Take care. Tom Worthington

Being a watchers right now. I have thought about same question some.
While super fast is fun and has been where I spent most of my racing,headsup. Being consistent on any track as we all know is what wins brackets. I have watched some quick 4.20 and 4.30 cars run number after number then get bit by track late.
I think you are dead on with 4.60 and 4.70's. You guys have consistent cars and drivers,well one is anyway.LOL I have said cpl times if my deal runs right on that range I will be happy.If it runs quicker I will be happy,but more than likely look at how to get it in that range. It just seems that area is quick enough to make for strong racing while not pushing limits of traction in later rounds when track might go away some.

Since today most big money races are divided between doorcars and dragster I will give my opinion on both. On the dragster side I will agree with what has already been said in go with the 4.6x-4.7x range. That puts you in the middle of the pack since its becoming more popular to go 4.4x or faster nowadays. Still able to chase quite a bit and if you are getting chased down its only by acouple tenths and say 3-10 MPH. On the doorcar side I would have to say 5.7x-5.9x range. Seems like every doorcar is right in that range specially the further you go south(I'm from Ohio). As like the dragster side its not uncommon to see doorcars hauling azz and going 5.3x or faster. For me personally I am a 6.7x-7.0x kind of guy. My whole racing career I have been the slower car 95% of the time so I actually prefer to leave first and be chased down rather than be the faster car. Sure it is easier racing from behind but I tend to get over aggressive and mess up the finish line. In the end it all boils down to what you're comfortable with, what your pocketbook can handle and that at the end of the race day you are safe and able to get back home to your family!

4.60's to 4.70's is my goal this coming year with new combination in my dragster.. I have been running 4.90's for about 3 years and within the first year or so hurt the motor and borrowed a 4.6x to 4.700 motor and it was an absolute blast and I loved chasing down people at 146-148 than 138-140.. Just my preference though.

The 2nd and 3rd car turned on the most win lamps with both driving both cars...yes the slower cars. They slower cars never got bit by the racetrack late at night...excluding the crashed car from excessive braking (the slowest one).

In my world of big money bottom bulb racing I have two answers...foot braking I like 6.30 to 6.70...off the button I like 6.10 to 6.50...
My junk runs 6.60's off the foot and 6.50's off the button...a bit on the slower side but I am a 93 pump gas car...pump gas cars can be a handful to make consistent but after 2 years mine is finally coming around...
