Wouldn't it be dimensionally limited by the gear set and axle center line to be in the same spot if it is still a 9" ring gear or am I missing something?

Some of the ultra cases will not fit into certain housings. I was going to do the ultra in my HT.
It will not fit. It is too long. I believe the ultra is 18x15x13. My driveshaft/coupler is only 5.75 long. You have to call them or an attempt the email. I can only use the Pro HD case due to minn room i have. Here is a PDF on a warning about grinding the case.
