I have a buddy with a 1974 Dodge D500 truck, converted into a race car hauler. It's a beautiful restoration, save for the vacuum brake booster being bad. My friend has installed two rebuilt units on there already, but the diaphram keeps failing in short order. Cheap Chinese junk, he believes. Any offhand suggestions on something better? Some new, old-stock would be ideal to find it would seem. I suggested he maybe call the usual aftermarket and hot-rod brake places like Mark Williams or Wilwood or somebody. I have not seen the booster myself, but my friend claims it's a 'big sow'. ;^) Perhaps some double-diaphram unit would work.... Thanks guys, Troy

Another question, is he also changing the master cylinder? A leaky master cylinder will make a brake booster, fail sometimes quickly.

Thanks guys. I guess the brakes worked great when the booster was working, so I'm thinking it's perhaps not the pedal ratio. My friend didn't say anything about the master cylinder leaking, but I believe it is okay. I have seen that too, where brake fluid could damage a diaphram.
