I bought a car that has a set of 14x31x15 Goodyear slicks, been racing for 30 years and never ran Goodyear tires until now. I thought I’d use them til they’re gone and go back to another brand. I’m going to be honest I’m very impressed with this tire. I looked them up and it says that they are a medium stiff sidewall, I have never heard of that. Just wondering if anyone else likes these goodyears

Goodyear slicks have always had a reputation of being fast tires but they also have a reputation of going away fast meaning not a lot of runs. They are also typically the most expensive tires and their air retention isn’t great

I’m seeing more GY on bracket cars lately than I have prior (Tommy Plott, Nick Hastings and recent $50k winner Chris Gulitti) and believe they must work well for those that use them. A $10k no box door car race I attended last weekend was won on Sunday with GY on a 57 chevy. I need tires now and MT is out of my size (32x14 stiff wall) until sometime in August and I just mounted a set of Hoosier that were recommended by Ed (they do NOT leak, and both took 1 oz of weight to balance). I seriously considered trying the GY 1984, and might consider them again at the next tire mounting. I used this same tire in 2007-8 and never went back after switching.

I ran the GY 1984 exclusively on my 27 roadster back in my SG days. GY 1408 was the only tire that would work on my Camaro, sidewall would be gone in 50 runs with MT and GY would last about 100. Also ran GY on my dragster the first 2 seasons and won a track championship with them, but they would always shake at the end of the Burnout and was breaking stuff. Switched to the little Bubba. GY offered me to beta test the new TD tire a few years back, I declined because I only had 1 set of wheels and did not want to commit to them. I never had any issue with them holding air. Maybe the shortage of MT tires is goodyears way of selling more GY tires...

My experience with Goodyear was they were great until they were not. And that was almost like flipping a light switch. They went away that fast. Wonder if buying M/T has changed that any? "I am not ashamed to confess I am ignorant of what I do not know." Marcus Tullius Cicero

Side wall going away in an instant was how they were on the Camaro, one run was dead straight and then the next it would want to turn and go centerline or wall hunting, pretty much spot on 95-100 passes. MT was the same way but at 50 passes. I was running a 32x16 and wanted to try Hoosier but the section width was too wide and they wouldn't fit

As of now I have 133 passes on these and it’s printing 60s and they don’t lose any air at all, even in the winter months

I ran the 2070 Goodyear for a while and air retention was on par with the Hoosier 18250 I run now. I have considered trying Goodyears again but I just have a hard time getting away from these. I am a foot feeder so I’m easy on tires but I have 336 passes on this set and the they are still grouping 60’ times. Our last points race in temps from 88 up to 96 I went 1.286 1.298 1.303 1.304 1.306 1.306 1.315 1.306 1.319 That won’t be good for some of y’all’s stuff but our track sprays and drags at the start and that’s what you have for the whole day. After time trials they always stop for track workers to get a drink and a bite and my car always slows .010 every time. Both 1.31s were when something had us stopped for a bit. Just what mine does with Hoosiers. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

I wouldn't get all caught up in some of "won't be good for some of y'all's stuff". I'm not going to mention anyone's name(s). Some have what they think is the best, gets hung up on one brand of tire, has the best tool for the job (pipe rack), preaches 60' consistency with his program & is the biggest Blow Hard Keyboard Racer on DRR...Yada...Yada...Yada. Here's his 60's courtesy of NHRA.com in order of the runs in S/C. 1.560 1.575 1.546 1.541 1.537 1.565 2BKING 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3000 lbs. I am probably talking out of my a**, but doesn't the throttle stop timer influence even the 60 foot times in S/C? Take care. Tom Worthington If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

The only time it would is if the entire throttle stop cycle happens before the car breaks the 60’ beam. In this case the car leaves and goes to the cruise rpm and stays “cruising” through the 60’ beam so the 60’ would not be affected by the timer since the timer is still running when the car breaks the 60 beam. I hope that makes sense. Those are some impressively consistent 60’s, a .038 swing is great, right?

This thread is about Goodyear slicks yet No surprise the clueless, the jealous nobodies, the haters, only reply because I did yet they add nothing of relevance to the topic. Meanwhile the broke dyck scumbag like his old man who ain’t ever done shyt nor has shyt worth talking about, now with a pathetic performing pro charged small block, continues to bang away on his keyboard spewing his drivel rather than race. Next we have the ball less p u s s y who ain’t ever done shyt in super comp, can’t get passed 2nd round in over 12 years and more often than not is a 1st round runner up while my son has won the divisional, runnered up in the division, was the Jegs Allstar, was in 2 national event finals, winning one and finished 4th in the world! Nuff said! Scott ban them!

Maybe if you were on Goodyear Slicks you wouldn't have had that great ".038 swing" of 60's. That being said, it has been many years since running Goodyear's. They gave me the best 60's, but the sidewalls only lasted about 70 runs. I had the same sidewall issues with the M/T's & Hoosiers. Hence the reason for changing to radial slicks, no issues now. I haven't tried the Goodyear radials yet. I'm very satisfied with the M/T's & the Hoosiers are a close second. Used Goodyear 1984 for years, never got more than 110 hits before I would kill sidewalls. Change over to M:T been getting 180 hits before rubber gone . But I’m a slow duck with 1.40s 60 foot. Wow 113 in the shade! HAVE THEY CALLED US YET ? THEY HAVE!!!

Amen to that! I just can't imagine. It sure would help keep costs down. I am guessing you must pile up those passes very quickly, or else just the amount of time would break down those tires. I think I might be able to get THREE seasons out of a set of tires that worked after 336 passes. Bear in mind, I never b*yback. Take care.
