Got a weird electric shifter issue. The shifter solenoid is one of those locking type that requires voltage to engage/lock and then when the voltage is removed, the solenoid releases pushing the shifter forward. This is a Shiftnoid unit firing a reverse pattern B&M Pro Stick controlling a PG. We have it wired to one of Digital Delay's Elite RPM Switches. The Shiftnoid is about a year old but not many runs and the Digital Delay is new. The D/D is configured to remove voltage for .20 seconds when the RPM is reached. Testing the D/D with it's internal test mode releases the solenoid every time with zero failures. Putting the car on stands and checking at 3000, 4000, 5000 and a setting at 6600 released the solenoid every time. With the car in low (first) gear and doing a burnout, when the RPM setting is reached the solenoid releases. Re-locking the solenoid and leaving the starting line in low gear is the only time the solenoid does not release and move the shifter to high (second) gear. And it consistently fails each time. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Try wiring the ignition box positive and negative connections directly to the battery. You could also try installing a MSD 8830 noise filter.

After checking everything multiple times we thought we had it figured out with the high idle issue but that wasn't the whole story. It seems that although we tested the solenoid hitting the shifter and moving it forward, it wasn't moving it completely to the high gear detent - maybe a bit over an 1/8 of an inch short but enough that the trans didn't go into high gear. Moved the solenoid forward a bit and the problem is resolved. It's the small things that drive you crazy.

Been through that with the shiftnoid---if they aren't set exactly right they will fail. Also had the mounting point flexing and had to reinforce it. Glad you got it resolved
