I'm going to need an RPM Activated switch for the shifter in my new build. I'm looking at the digital MSD 8969 so I don't have to deal with a whole bunch of chips. Is anybody using one and how do you like it? 272" Spitzer 540 Chevy The Blower Shop XR1 FTI XPM Series Converter FTI Level 6 Powerglide 3.69@199 .916 60' 2017 Bradenton Heads Up Madness Open Outlaw Champ 2018 PDRA T/D #5 2019 PDRA T/D #2 2020 Retired From T/D Competition.... 2020 Bradenton NMCA Hemi Shootout Winner 2021 getting back into bracket racing with a Gen3 Hemi powered 87 Cutlass.

I was looking at those too. Looked like overkill for what I need, but it does have some nice features. I have the Digital Delay unit that is linked above in my Lamplighter project. I am a few weeks away from track testing. However, it operates as expected with the MSD tester. I also like the option of shifting by time or RPM with the same unit. Larry Woodfin

I am using the DD Elite time or rpm switch in my roadster and really like it. I use time to shift instead of rpm and I have one of the Little Wizard boxes for when I want to race in Super Pro and still shift with this. Looks like he has 2 of them in the scratch and dent / refurbished section. That is where I bought mine and couldn't tell at all. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

Mark, I did that in the TD. Why do you think that is the way to go? 272" Spitzer 540 Chevy The Blower Shop XR1 FTI XPM Series Converter FTI Level 6 Powerglide 3.69@199 .916 60' 2017 Bradenton Heads Up Madness Open Outlaw Champ 2018 PDRA T/D #5 2019 PDRA T/D #2 2020 Retired From T/D Competition.... 2020 Bradenton NMCA Hemi Shootout Winner 2021 getting back into bracket racing with a Gen3 Hemi powered 87 Cutlass.

With the bracket car I always shifted on time that way it shifted at the same spot on the track each run. With the TD I shift on RPM because if it spins or smokes the tires I want it to shift early and try and recover quicker.

why would rpm not shift as close to the same spot as on time would ?

Camaro, in theory, under ideal conditions, RPM VS time shift would be the same place on the track. Yet, our world is not perfect. During the time span of a full race day, the conditions change [maybe only slightly] air, track, engine power output all change. Thus, even though those changes might be small, RPM ****ed would become slightly different. So, in the quest for consistency in bracket racing, shifting on time holds the potential to be more accurate. Larry Woodfin

The other thing nice about time shift is you can change the timer sitting in the water if you want to maybe speed up or slow you car down a little if you need too.

Imho, without some sort of data acquisition, you are guessing which is more or less (rpm or time shift) consistent in your race vehicle. Charting the actual rpm the shift activated and what rpm the transmission completed the shift will better explain what is happening.

Of course this could vary depending on where you set your shift time, but I always figured that if you are shifting on time and the weather got worse, when the car shifts at the same time you are now at a lower RPM and making that run even slower than it had to be. If the weather improves, now the RPM is higher at a given time on track and so the run got quicker both because of the weather and the shift point. Seems like it would make the swings wider unless the baseline shift point was a little higher than optimal, RPM-wise. Tony Leonard
