Pro assembled BBC 565 - 632's for $5600 - $6000 in my opinion is a pretty good deal. I know people who run these with great luck. run them two seasons, sell them and buy another.. works good for a bracket build.

The apples to apples comment.. ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!

Sometimes cheaper stuff “sneaks” in. Get a build sheet and verify.

the key is don't allow yourself to be lured into their shortblock. Spec what you want and have them all bid THAT, accept no substitutes.

Boys I’m not knocking anybody’s engine builder but for what I’ve seen on the prices on there web sites you need to look into PAR racing engine. Scott Duggins can and will beat most places on price and you’ll get a great engine. He will build you a quality piece and reliable also for a fair price.

I know the price of good parts so I would be a little scared of a complete motor for $6000, I had more than that in my short block and they are giving you heads with it.

I was in the same position last year, but in the end I just couldn't fully trust anyone so I bought parts and had it done locally by people I know.

I have mine done local also and just can’t see that option for $6000 in my car. I want to know mine last and my previous motor was in car for 12 seasons so my locks guy does good.

I would never suggest to anyone a "short block" when it comes to a race gas BBC. The time to do your piston fly cutting, if need be, or your piston ordering is when you have a clear understanding of the camshaft events at or around 9-11 degrees on overlap before and after, that, in conjunction with understanding the cylinder head (chambers are not the same) and "free drop".
Most don't understand much of this, and find out later that they have valves kissing the eye brows due to incorrect relief locations and valve sizes. BBC typically have sizable domes and anytime we are working on a dome style engine in the shop, the pistons must be fitted to the chamber, and that chamber must be bore scribed.
