Without knowing what specific model you have I can't tell you much.

There are big differences from a 7.5 to a 10 or a 12....

Code 27 points to a loss of AC output....

A 7.5 does not have brushes...and is an Inverter design. There is no separate control to go bad.
A 10 or 12 has brushes and has a separate control board.

What is the letter code off the machine and how many hours on it...

Once I know those 2 things I can tell you a lot more...

Finally got back to it...
5.5HDKBA-2733C
options:RO86-2 Po90-1 Spec C
HDKBA 5-5HDKBA
sn F060937938
Kabota, water cooled.
Will not continue to run, even with separate 12 v applied to fuel pump.
Front cover is off, but it appears that the unit needs to drop out to access anything besides the coolant tank or fuel pump.

That's funny....

I just pulled one out of the side of a Communications Company box truck...

Your machine was built in sept. 2006 and is 13 years old...

Those units have a separate generator driven by a belt. A 2 cyl Kubota engine.

They have brushes and that would be the first thing to look at. A pretty common failure and easy fix.

The brushes are under a cover on the left side/ end of the machine if your facing the front louvered panel/door. 4 10mm bolts...

The brushes are the same ones used in a gas engine unit. Its a mess under that cover.....control board is in there and wiring....Brushes have 1 10 MM bolt and the rig comes right out...Its black plastic...

Pull brushes, if they are worn bad the slip rings inside there will need sanding clean with some shop roll on a stick...

Just start it repeatedly and sand those surfaces till you see clean copper....

If brushes are good and not worn out.....you would need to do a more testing....and it gets more complicated.

They are the most compact difficult to work on units Onan makes...

10lbs of you know what in a 5 lb bag doesn't even begin to describe one.....

Access is extremely limited usually in an RV, truck or whatever....Pulling it out to work on the inside of it is almost a must...

The machine I am working on is a 5 HDKBC and is a 2013..and has unkown hours. Radiator is shot....and I've replaced at least 2 control boards and one fuel pump on it previously.

Unkown hours but I guarantee it's a lot.. I've never pulled it out before and struggled bad to work on it in the trucks side compartment.....Changing the control board is only possible with a mirror and struggling just to get in there to access it..

I had one of those that had intermittent issues and I had to replace that control board after getting the machine back in the MH it is in....Thought it was fixed but noooooo!!!

Had to unbolt it and swivel it sideways enough to gain access to the Control board and where its mounted...

The owner is a racer and owner of a real popular racing website....and a good friend....

Ok, now I have some insight.
I did the basic troubleshooting.
Now thanks to your "very valuable insight" I have at least a direction to do some more troubleshooting.
Many, Many thanks for taking the time to give me some clue, and for others that request help.
Racers helping racers.
Guys like you are still at the top of the class. Thanks Rich, Ill be back when I delve back into it.

Ok, dropped it out, found brush holder broken/ signs of melting, 1 brush spring rusted, brush F+, F- was ok. Some pitting on ring very minor after sanding with some scotchbrite.
While it is down I should service it, oil and filter, water pump belt, air filter, fuel filter, drive belt.
Any good place to get the parts? I found the brush block on line for 48 bucks.
I need some part numbers for the drive belt and water pump belt, and fuel filter, can you help?.
Where to get manuals for it?

Any Cummins-Onan dealer near you should be able to get you the parts you need.

If you don’t have a dealer near you I can get you anything you need.

I don’t know about manuals though.

I have access to everything online direct. I don’t buy or use paper manuals anymore but I’m sure they sell them. I use my work computer to read manuals.

Parts is separate from service and would be 2 manuals.

I’d have to investigate how to get them.

My work number is 973-328-6880 ask for Rich

I’m there till 4 everyday if you have no luck locally

I’m in NJ....
